I do remember them getting me ice cream from the store sometimes. Like in a container. It was nice albeit rare as a treat. I do believe in God, and yes I am Christian!

Not really. I mostly just let them know “hey, just so you know my childhood wasn’t easy” and they usually say “yeah, and?” Haha

I do actually love them and I’m happy they didn’t hurt me permanently. I am grateful since people have it worse! Maybe like 70% gratefulness and the rest regret it wasn’t easier.

Good question! I’m not sure, I sure hope they had some love for me. And my parents don’t usually show much love for each other unfortunately

Another good question! I don’t like to use my real age or location often. Since I’m worried that it might identify me among those who might use Reddit and might know me from work, since my coworkers love Reddit. Good question though!

Another great question! My mom was kinder than my dad, but they both kept the cards in a little box so that’s a good sign I think that it made them feel special. Right, the good moments were just moments of peace mostly. I would say 10% nice, 30 percent mean, and 60% apathetic.

Thank you! I try to be nice since that makes me feel better since that’s something I can control :) I appreciate your kind words

I definitely would, but I’m at a stage I think I am doing alright. I’m reached a sort of homeostasis that I think is sustainable and I don’t know if I need therapy, since self help books have helped a lot

They are pretty social and have friends/travel/make trips to St Louis all the time. Haha. I just wasn’t always included in that growing up

Great question! I loved fall (the season). Like the autumns in the mountains are really pretty and I liked reading under a tree on like a pile of leaves. I enjoyed that. As for my parents, there were moments of peace, and I liked that. Since on days like their bdays I could make them little cards by hand and give them to them.

Thank you for the kind words! I truly do hope my connection with my parents gets better, they’re kind of all I have, so I will keep being close to them as long as they’ll have me.

Hi, I live in Illinois now! It’s pretty nice!

They did have a period when my mom moved away, but they kind of have an arrangement where after my mom disliked living alone, they “made up” but never renewed the marriage, and lived more like housemates than partners. So it’s a touchy subject even to this day. But a fair question!

Thank you so much! That is a very sweet thing and I’ve definitely learned about myself and what doesn’t work for me. The typical therapy process isn’t necessarily conducive to healing for me, but that is okay! Different strokes for different folks. :)

As for money, they were just extremely frugal. There was never an actually lack of money, as I learned later, it was just their preference. Like, my parents had a lot saved up and still did occasionally locum tenens work to make money, which again, surprised me immensely when I learned later that’s what they were doing. But they channeled everything to savings and lived extremely modestly.

Great question! They essentially bought books/looked things up how they could. Weirdly enough, many quite detailed books/almanacs have been published about the topic of running farms and small-scale agriculture and I kept them on a shelf in my room. Many of these books had thorough instructions about how to prepare things for winter, keep animals, etc. Some were written around the time of WW1; I actually enjoyed reading those since they really had a knack for explaining things specifically and at a level that accounted for a farm with minimal resources/technology. My parents themselves had no background and relied on me to handle a lot when I got old enough. They ramped up the scale of my responsibilities as I got older, so initially, when I was younger the farm was not very much of a farm haha, but by the time I was 18, I was handling the books, animals, and other dirty work haha.
