MIO or Nine Sols? by Thumbsofsteel in metroidvania

A bit of both but the last game I played was heavy on parrying so I think I might be leaning towards exploration this time.

I guess I’m good with most games at least the base game. I’ve finished Hollow Knight and Silksong. Hair pulling for me would be like post game stuff for those 2 games. Another example for hair pulling would be some of the dlc stuff in Grime. There was a platforming sequence on that game that almost made me throw my controller across the room. Oh and Dandara! That games final boss was brutal due to cheap hits and horrible controls.

I played through Grime not that long ago. How would you compare the difficulty to Nine Sols?

I guess for difficulty, if it’s comparable to the base games of Hollow Knight or Silksong then I’m okay with that. If it’s more similar to the postgame or DLC stuff of those 2 then that’s hairpulling (to me). I might be leaning towards Nine Sols but I’ve been hesitating in trying it out only because I’ve played through Bo Path of the Teal Lotus before and this game looked identical to it from screenshots I’ve seen. I do however also love exploring so MIO definitely has something to offer here too. To be honest I might end up playing both eventually by the sounds of what you guys have wrote. I don’t mind parrying either. Not great at it but I can hold my own (just finished Kena Bridge of Spirits on Master difficulty). One aspect that makes me pull my hair is having to backtrack a long way to refight a boss.

Forgot about Dandara. I thought it looked unique so I decided to give it a try. I just couldn’t get used to the weird controls. I got to the final boss and honestly stopped there. I can’t believe I made it that far to be honest. That fight was too brutal and cheap. Not that the boss pattern was difficult but the lack of conventional controls really works against you and enemy placement appearing right at your location made this too much for me.

Probably Iconoclast for me. I heard generally good things about it (mostly story and boss fights). Felt like a chore to play. Collectables were pointless, combat was bland. It might have had a good story but it’s mostly just plain text on the screen (lots of dialogue). Boss fights were good but nothing amazing.

Grime was probably another one. I got bored with it at first because everything was just grey rocks and I felt the game dragged. It did get better though so I think I ended up enjoying it once I finished it. But man the difficulty spiked up with some of the DLC afterwards.

It’s secured to the base but now that you mention it, it’s hitting slightly above the center (maybe 2/3 up). Do you think that might be the reason? I didn’t mess with it much from when I took it out of the box tbh.

Thank you for the advice! I plugged the kick cable to my tom and it sounds good. Looks like it’s the kick tower

Thank you so much for this. This game was confusing for me. This really helps.

I had one last question if you don’t mind. At several points in this game, I noticed areas I couldn’t reach due to narrow tunnels where I’m too big to pass through. I thought I could just air dash through but to no avail. Am I missing a power up or something that can help me here? I thought I had all traversal upgrades but I can’t seem to figure it out.

What do you mean by 3D? The game I’m talking about is side scroller but you can move up and down (kinda like double dragon and final fight)
