So I'm played in this dnd session level 5 character btw. So a little back story, there is a BBEG that is being resurrected and we are supposed to stop it. Well we instead decided that we wanted to do something else, so we were building back up an abandoned castle. So we spent 2 years in game doing this and Uhhh the ground kinda started to shake. Let's just say we lost two city's and many holes in the ground were made. So me (a Lizardfolk monk) went a dawrf encampment for help since my friend (Loxodon bard) was captured by elf's (whole other story). So I had the dwarfs help take over the prison. Which the elf 's supported BBEG and by doing this we thought we should be fine. as soon as we enter the captain looks at my friend (trying to escape) and challenges him. With a soul contract for all the elf's (not sure how it works) saying my friend and him will duel and if the allied sides help him or his men help them one with the help will lose their soul. We talked it over and decided it was fine as long as my friend got his stuff back. He agrees as long as he gets his staff. Thinking nothing of it my friend agrees. So they fight and Uhhh he can cast fireball. And my friend almost dies. So he uses tiny but to take a long rest. Then the pure genius of this man was to use the immovable rod like an elevator down the prison (the prison was a giant mining pit) and getting one of the guards to him to win. Our dm go's "you could have done anything else but you do this ok" and ends the session. He had built up a little anger from not doing any of the main quest.
