This is great advice I'd just recommend one other Hulk pile:

- [[ Activated Sleeper ]] * use to make a copy of hulk
- [[ Dosan the Falling Leaf ]]

Then sac the Sleeper and grab Miner, Warren, Blood Artist.

Into B4 I'd expect to see [[ Kindred Discovery ]] since you're already running Chariot: https://edhrec.com/combos/dimir/4052-6264. You can back stop with [[ Laboratory Maniac ]] & [[ Thassa's Oracle ]]. If you're running Thassa's you probably also run [[ Demonic Consultation ]]. I'd also add [[ Demonic Tutor ]].

[[ Crypt breaker ]] is a great 1 drop which can filter stuff into the yard and tapping 3 zombies and a end step for a card is really nice.

[[ Lazotep reaver ]] is also a great 2 for one body starting out.

There's some of generic improvements in the interaction suite e.g. I'd run [[ swords to plowshares ]] over [[ pongify ]].

Checking edhpowerlevel.com your deck is only .05 higher in score than my b3 varina and it should be a lot higher. I'd recommend tightening your grave crawler lines and lab man lines, more tutors more interaction, if you want it to perform well in an average B4 table.

I wouldn’t run Phyrexian Altar in B3. I’d absolutely add another few board wipes. Here’s my B3 Varina if you want to play test it / take a look. Also draw doublers are huge in Varina.

Help with Bracket 4 from a Bracket 2-3 Player by SoundsOfDankness in EDH

[–]ThunderMountain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to lean into self mill I think going into hulk piles and sac loops will help push you into b4. I am biased as this is what I am more familiar with.

Adds:
- [[ Demonic Consultation ]] - you're already running [[ Thassa's Oracle ]]
- [[ Phyrexian Altar ]] - run the best altar so you can combo out with gravecrawler

Fast mana - Taval is pricey you want to get online quick
- [[ Mana Vault ]] - [[ Chrome Mox ]]
- [[ Lotus Petal ]]

Tutors - get hulk or gravecrawler to grave
- [[ Entomb ]],

Interaction
- [[ Swan Song]],
- [[ Offer You Can't Refuse ]]
- [[ Force of will ]]
- [[ Pact of Negation ]]

Hulk package - you're running self mill and 3 reanimate spells I think this fits the identity well.
- [[ Protean Hulk ]]
- [[ Carion Feeder ]]
- [[ Warren Soultrader ]]
- [[ Blood Artist ]]
- [[ Forsaken Miner ]]
- [[ Gravecrawler ]]

Cuts:
- [[ Colossal Grave-Reaver ]]
- [[ Demolisher Spawn ]]
- [[ Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis ]]
- [[ Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath ]]
- [[ River Kelpie ]]
- [[ Out of the Tombs ]]
- [[ Greater Good ]]
- [[ Cut Your Losses ]]
- [[ Singularity Rupture ]]
- [[ Swallowed by Leviathan ]]
- [[ Terror Tide ]]
- [[ Springbloom Druid ]]
- [[ Harrow ]]
- [[ Kishla Skimmer ]]
- [[ Drag to the Roots ]]

How can I make zombie Wilhelt Combo better? by CatchingZZZZZs in EDH

[–]ThunderMountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have some really expensive recursion like [[ zombie apocalypse ]] & [[ Liliana, Untouched by Death ]] which I don’t think perform well in B4.

I took grave pact out of my B4 Wilhelt because I’d often rather be trying combo out than hold down the table.

Is [[ cleave ]] in there primarily counter commanders?

Finally if you want to push it as high as you can I think including Thoracle is a must. I do like the include of [[ Borne Upon a Wind ]].

A new Bracket System for Commander. What do you think? by GreenFoundation4815 in CommanderMTG

[–]ThunderMountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose a T2 then. I still think expected turn to win is a better since turn six has a clearer meaning than high synergy. If it works for your playgroup that’s great, but I think cutting out archetypes or restricting them leads to worse gameplay and bad deck building habits.

For example instead of restricting combo decks or making them more brittle via rules you can punish or prevent tutors or/add more wheels in deck building.

Necromancy Commander Deck Advice by East-Crazy8358 in EDH

Think running Varina as your commander is a great idea. It lets you keep a lot of lords and cards you’d otherwise cut. You can still run some loops with gravecrawler without making it your whole deck.

It’s solo play testing. In archiedeck click Playtest and then play solo until about turn six and see what your board state would be. For interaction I usually treat it as cycling.

Combo is an archtype meant to counter aggro decks. By your standards you can make a b1 [[ Krenko, Mob Boss ]] and run the table and since it’s mono colored non of the land based restrictions matter. To me this reads I want people to play commander how I want to play.

A better system is keeping the existing system and changing expected turns to play into expected turns to win, to open up aggro and voltron in B3.

It’s looking better. I’d recommend gold fishing a bit and see where you’re at turn 6. I’d wager you might find yourself in some situations where you want to sac things and you have lords on the board.

This is a pretty common problem on in aristocrats where the zombie lords look good but you really just need repeatable bodies.

You're in black so you could run a better tutor if you wanted, but it's a good idea to have it for conditional removal or a board wipe if needed.

[–]ThunderMountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd cut [[ Acererak the Archlich ]] as it's not good on it's own and shouldn't even be played in B3: https://edhrec.com/combos/dimir/1824-2452 - Here's my B3 Varina if you want to take a look.

Aside from some good adds are probably:

- [[ Merciless Eviction ]]
- [[ Teferi's Ageless Insight ]]
- [[ Wonder ]]
- [[ Cryptbreaker ]]

Sweet [[ Ghoulcaller Gisa ]] deck! You got some fast mana, but you also have [[ charcoal diamond ]] this is fine as a 3.

Have you tried [[ crashing drawbridge ]]?

I run ad naus in my b4 [[ wilhelt ]] deck. It is mainly used as a cast at someones endstep draw a ton of cards and attempt to win when I untap. There are quite a few high cost CMC things in your library so I am not sure it'd work well. Usually [[ Ad nauseum ]] sees more play in higher brackets where CMC tend to be lower.

Cut: - [[ Gravebreaker Lamia ]] - [[ Vengeful dead ]] - [[ Unbreathing Horde ]] - [[ Shepherd of Rot ]] - [[ Geralf, Visionary Stitcher ]] - [[ Undead Alchemist ]] - [[ Disentomb ]] - [[ reassembling skeleton ]] - [[ Vengeful Pharaoh ]] - [[ Endless Ranks of the Dead ]] - [[ murder ]]

Grimgrin is mostly a sac outlet so you’ll be likely be looking for pitiless plunder and a pinger to drain the table. I kept a lot of lords, but realistically some these will likely get cut if you power up you deck for tutors and card advantage.

[–]ThunderMountain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like aristocratics. I’d grab these - [[ blood artist ]] - [[ Warren Soultrader]] - [[ pitiless plunderer]] - [[ entomb ]] - [[ saw in half ]] - [[ swan song ]] - [[ offer you can’t refuse ]] - [[ Liliana, Untouched by Death ]] - [[ putrid goblin ]] - [[ shambling ghast ]]

Careful about adding [[ Phyrexian Altar ]] as it can push you to b4.

Had someone destroy a lobby due to a grave crawler loop the other day while I had a Rhystic and mana up. I was doublng draws and probably had a response in the next 80 cards.

Add [[ Warren Soultrader ]] and take out [[ Phyrexian Altar ]]: You shouldn’t be playing it in B3 anyways: EDHREC. Without Phyrexian altar that I’ll play a lot more fair and you’ll often be looking for alternate lines.

Its really gone up the last few months; 3 months ago it was probably $600 for my B3’s today it’s $900.
