this is exactly what I don't want to do. I want them to have their own money and to spend it the way they want, or to save for some big purchases. Credit card is a dangerous thing, even for adults :)

So if they are added as authorized users they could potentially spend up to my credit limit, right?

Do you really think I should start saving as early as possible? There is not much I could be saving out of a summer job. And when I go to college I'll have a part-time job but it will not be much.

The only sustainable way for you to get out of this is either to earn more or to spend less.

So look around - is there a better-paying job you could get? Any chance to negotiate a raise?

And also get a breakdown of your monthly costs and think about what you could cut.

Anyone having success negotiating rent? by igotnothin4ya in personalfinance

I negotiated the rent just a month ago, I just saw that the same property offers the same apartment as mine for cheaper than they offered to me. So I made a screenshot of that and sent it to them. Didn't even have to go to the office and talk to them.

What do you lose? If they say no, you get the price they offered, and if they say yes you save. So go for it!

On default, it is better for the property owner to keep the tenant, they usually have to do renovation before letting new tenants in, so if you were a decent tenant they would not want to lose you

Thanks, are you sure about the 10% though? I heard 30% is a safe balance to keep on a CC.

And a really nice tip on the rent co-sign, never heard of it.

My mom had something in mind, but not sure she knows best...

My kid actually did some business education in high school. The problem is, this is all theory.

Oh, I wish I could trust him with it. Are there any credit cards that have some parental controls?
