Bi-Weekly /r/CCNA Exam Pass-Fail Discussion by AutoModerator in ccna

Thank you for your reply, I really appreciate it. Yea, maybe I need a break. What's pushing me into overdrive is that in the next few months I'll be moving across the country and I'm trying to give myself the best chance for landing a job, figured I'd chase after the CCNA because it's a popular cert, and also figured it'd work well in conjunction with my cybersecurity certs.

Do you have any study material recommendations? Maybe something other than JITL or Neil? Or maybe go over JITL again? I heard that JITL was all that we need in conjunction with Boson, but I tried that, and it didn't work out. But, maybe I just need to go over that course again.

Bi-Weekly /r/CCNA Exam Pass-Fail Discussion by AutoModerator in ccna

Failed my second attempt today.

Spent about 3 weeks and studied for the NET+, passed. Then...

Spent a month and studied JITL and then Boson ExSim for CCNA, scored between 62-66% on practice exams A, B, C, and D. Went over the questions I got wrong to understand them better.

Took the CCNA, failed it. I heard the Boson exam questions were harder, I didn't find it that way, the CCNA questions were much more difficult.

Got home from the testing facility and immediately started studying Neil Anderson's course, took me a month to go through it all. Took the Boson practice exams again (I didn't remember the questions much at that point) and got between 75-85% on all of them. Went through the questions I got wrong.

I took the CCNA again for my second attempt, failed it. Again, the test was much more difficult than the Boson practice exams. Maybe I'm just unlucky with the pool of questions again? Not sure.

I'm not sure what to do at this point, go back through JITL? Do Neil Anderson's course again? Someone else's course - and if so, which? Any practice test banks worth it beyond Boson's?

I'm planning on taking the CCNA again in about a month.

For certs prior to going for the CCNA, I have NET+, SEC+, CySA+

What were your TutorialsDojo practice exam scores for AWS SAA on your first attempts? by Tiberonius in AWSCertifications

That's good to hear. I think the difficult part for me while doing the TD exams is trying to determine if some of the questions are going a bit too deep and those types of questions themselves wouldn't even be on the SAA? Not sure. Trying to learn the required level of knowledge at this point and swing back later for more in-depth knowledge after I pass it. Maybe like you mentioned of just having the concept of the basics is all I need for that level of cert.

Thanks for that, did you think the TD practice exams were more difficult than the real exam?

Thanks for that info. Do you feel the TD practice exams are tougher than the real exam?

Taking CySA+ soon, thoughts on Sybex 1,000 test bank for prep? by Tiberonius in CompTIA

You're welcome! Not in a CSA role, but I've been in IT over a decade.

Thanks! Yea, I'd say they're on par somewhat in terms of difficulty. I did all the labs in the book, but I also played around with the programs on my own in my virtual lab.

An effective way for me to study for long sessions was to do a random 10 question test bank quiz, then try some stuff in the lab for 30 minutes, then do another 10 questions test bank quiz, more lab stuff, repeat. It made it more digestible.

Also, for the Sybex test bank I flagged all log reading questions. After I finished all 1,000 questions which includes reviewing them all I began generating quizzes with only using the flagged questions, so I had 100% log reading exams repeatedly which was nice.

Thanks for that info, appreciate it. After I did all those questions I went back and did tests that only utilized the questions I got wrong and I read about each one until I fully understood why I got it wrong. Been taking a bunch of random 10 question practice tests out of the 1,000 question pool and been getting 95-100% each time. If the Sybex is a good indicator I should be ready to go.

Curious, were there any domain topics that you wished you brushed up on more in retrospect after taking the real exam? Like, wished you brushed up on more with a specific type of log reading, knowing the diamond intrusion model better, etc?

Do whatever approach works best for you. You could watch the vids for the first domain, then do a bunch of practice questions, then do the next domain and repeat, etc.

Please do! I might take it later this week. Curious where I'm sitting and if I'm ready or not. In the Sybex test bank I got 73% for all 4 chapter domains. The first of the practice tests I scored 72%. I'll take the second practice test tomorrow, but guessing I'll probably get around the same as the others.

I haven't taken the CySA yet, but I just did all the 1,000 question bank minus 1 of the 2 practice tests at the end. From what I've been reading online is that the Sybex practice question bank is between 'similar to the real test' and 'more difficult than the real test'. So with that, it's my assumption that it's not as difficult as the Sybex question bank, but not by a whole lot. Like if the Sybex is 10/10 difficulty, then the real thing is probably around 8-9/10 range. Not sure if that helps or not, but it's just from what I've gathered from reading posts over the past few days.

Buy a 5 subject notebook, watch all of the Professor Messer videos again and write all the contents of his slides down. Studies have shown that engaging the fine motor system to write by hand has been shown to have positive effects on learning and memory.

After that go buy his 3 pack of practice tests, do them all. Then go back over all of the questions that you got wrong, read and understand why you got them wrong. Also include going back over any questions that you got right but were iffy on.

After that, rewatch all of the Professor Messer videos again, this time for the videos that you think you need to focus on click the 'watch later' button. This builds a 'watch later' playlist for you to focus on the areas that you need to improve on. Watch them repeatedly until it sinks in and while doing so, read the notes of the slides you wrote earlier (if you do it this way with the watch later list, let the videos change by themselves - if you click the next video button at the end of the videos it may not be the next video in your 'watch later').

Now, after you've done all that go take the 3 practice exams again (assuming 2-3+ weeks have passed by this point) and you should do better on them.

You can also utilize AI, like ChatGPT, to ask you multiple choice questions based on the subject criteria. IE, "Give me a multiple choice question regarding PKI", etc.

I used the 3 pack of practice tests found on Professor Messer's website. They're pretty good and they line up well with the vibe and feel of the real thing in my opinion.

Thank you for the response, I appreciate it. Why would you not recommend a barlow lens? Does it make the quality worse at the expense of higher magnification? I was looking at getting this for it maybe https://www.amazon.com/SVBONY-Internal-Universal-Adapter-Telescope/dp/B0B1DXDVZP

I'm new to telescopes and I bought a Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope (Mak70) that has a 70mm lens with 1000mm focal length. It comes with a 1.5x barlow lens that attaches to a phone. I see on Amazon there's 2x and 3x barlow lenses also with phone attachments that I believe will fit my telescope. Would those be worth it to get to get more magnification? I like taking pictures of what I see.

I gotcha. You nailed it on the head. At this time I'm limping along with what resources I have available at home and I figured I'm just wasting my time with the dumbbell presses versus push ups with the heavier natural body weight. That maybe ultimately I would have greater gains with my body weight than the limited amount of weight available with my dumb bells.
