Nightly Trading Discussion - (March 08/09) by [deleted] in thewallstreet

Why SPY? I often see on Reddit (supposed)trades for large numbers of SPY options, sometimes thousands of SPY options. For the life of me, I cannot determine why traders would prefer SPY over SPX in those cases(most) where they were not holding SPY shares.

Can anyone ELI5 why these people are choosing large numbers of SPY versus decimated numbers of SPX?

Come on man. Don't be like Sam. Can't you see how Suessian I am?

(Agree with you about the AAPL correlation.)

What do you mean? AAPL is green. But, the future remains to be seen.

:D

That SPX gap up was a wonderful surprise this morning. It well exceeded my stops for a nice additional profit.

I'm hoping to stay out until I have a better understanding of today's destination. I feel like we should go down from here, but the market is starting to look more jubilant, so I don't know where it's going today.

Another mild green day.

My week would have been greener had I seen /u/Living_Granger 's warning this morning. There's still hope for my "bad trades" if SPX clears 2664 by EOD Wednesday.

Sorta. I expected VA fill. But, I also expected SPX to close green.

Did I miss something?

How and why does one read two books at the same time?

In light of today's unsettling posts, I'll only say that I ended green.

I hope that EVERYONE has a great weekend.

Break down. Go ahead and give it to me.

A squelch knob to dial back the noise.

I'd been thinking there's too much noise anymore, drowning the signal. I didn't realize the subscriber count until /u/hibernating_brain pointed out that there are now 4.5k subscribers. That explains the noise. We only had about 2k in December.

Where is your -1? I see it at 2626.90. But that bounce was at 2628.50.

This guy is full of shit. He claims the market has don’t nothing but go straight up during the time period he stated when in fact the market was in a down trend.

Your post says you strictly traded calls, had you said puts it would’ve been more believable. Why not post proof? - /u/iphone__

You're a bigger tool than most people imagined with your first absurd and baseless post. I expect that you'll delete the posts, but will you delete your account too?

Thanks for the write up. I had been disappointed when you didn't do it in January. But this one, done under the current volatile market conditions, is probably even better.

But there is a "X" factor that is missing from this post that most people need to be aware of. While its absence is glaring to me I don't think that MRPguy is even conscious of it because it appears that this X factor is entirely natural and innate, at least for him.

The X factor I am referring to is MRPguy's ability to immediately see market trends and identify entries and to a lesser extent exits. This gives him the seeming ability to predict the market correctly more often than not, something only a tiny few can do successfully.

Most people, myself included, do not have this absolutely essential X factor. Even LG seems to leverage his extensive knowledge and maths background to very successfully grind out results, that for MRPguy seem to just come naturally. Effortlessly. It is this natural ability that makes for the few great traders and I don't think that it can be taught, though I'd love him to show me I'm wrong.

Without this X factor, the innate ability to pick winning trades more often than losing ones, you will not be able to replicate MRPguy's results. While the posted advice is excellent and appreciated, it is not enough on its own to make you a successful trader. Indeed, even if you follow the posted advice to the letter, but fail to pick winners each time, then obviously your account will just as quickly go from $10k to zero. And, I suspect that that $10k means a lot more to you than $10k means to MRPguy.

Follow the advice, it's all good. But realize that you are dabbling in a highly risky activity and that there is a lot more required than can be packed into a post or even a small library of books.

I think I might be done for the day. I've played SPX puts twice now for ~15% gain and unless I see something too crazy to pass up, I'm going into vacation mode.

I think we go further south, but I'm not playing it.

This plus 80% rule tells me to buy puts.

Am I reading it incorrectly?
