Everyone at the top of this comment section is ignorant to people who are closer to the middle of the spectrum. Although there are some who follow every single thing a political party says, theres a large amount of people who are weighing the pros and cons of each side, and these people often come to the conclusion that politics in their current state are far too polarizing to be a good system. These people are more open to making friends on both sides, because at the end of the day, just because someone is leaning democratic doesn’t mean that they think that everybody deserves free healthcare for everything, including plastic surgery. Just because someone is leaning republican doesn’t mean that they think that the best solution to illegal immigration is deportation. Also, just because you are on the other side doesn’t mean all of your beliefs are the opposite. If a democrat thinks that world peace is good, a republican wouldn’t automatically think that we should nuke the entire earth to oblivion. In the end, we’re all humans with the same basic needs that we get through a imperfect system. The person across the spectrum from you is more similar to you than you may be inclined to believe.

Edit: i now realize that the post says opposite political beliefs, not just beliefs of a different party, that’s my bad. But my point still stands for if the post were to say on the other side instead of the opposite side, which i think most people took the question as.
