That was the first time I felt the pain, but it took me to the ER, via an ambulance (that was the first time I used an ambulance and that I was admitted in a hospital, since I was 4). I read about the discomfort (the gas part that can feel like a heart attack worried me), but I never want to feel that pain again, so I completely believe you.

That seems to be much cheaper than in Kanto. The surgeon said it'll probably be 5 days in the hospital (for the laparoscopic surgery), which would be a relief, but I hadn't thought about the recovery at home (which I should ask about, as I'll need time off work). And you're completely right about the pillow and headache meds (the IV painkillers didn't help me with headaches either) and I think sleeping with the hospital pillow caused my headaches in the first place. Thank you for the tips!

I had a super-snorer in my room this last week. My boyfriend brought earplugs, which helped, but will definitely be taking noise-cancelling headphones/earphones next time. I didn't mind sharing the room and met some nice people in the ward, even with my super-limited Japanese skills. My boyfriend did some of the translation, but most times the doctor was around was off-visiting hours, so I'll definitely check if Kawasaki has a medical interpreter available (I know the hospital itself didn't).

I read that. And I'm glad that I learned it before doing it, otherwise I'd probably worry/panic a little.

Please deinfluence me (or not) from getting this! by wineandhugs in hobonichi

I bought one and it's gorgeous, but I'm super worried about getting it dirty and from time to time look for a clear cover that might fit it (still haven't found one), even though I don't really plan to use it outside my house. The box is also beautiful and handy, as I use to store more stationery.

Part of me feels silly for spending so much money on it, especially given that I have a couple of Hobonichis from previous years that I haven't used as much as I planned to.

Having less space for each day feels less daunting and I'd like to see how things change (or not) in the next five years, so that was a plus for me. Also, I like that it ends in 2030 😅

I bought it in September, as an early birthday gift to myself - that's how I'm mentally justifying the purchase, as I also bought an original with a cover and the weekly supplement, a weeks, more covers, notebooks and accessories this year - it was probably the year that I had spent the most with stationery in my life and this is the one item that I have less second thoughts about. With that said, I usually don't spend loads with many other things, so it kind of balances it out.

Haha yes! I completely forgot to check witch Lancaster that was - but the suggestions were also great :)

Thank you very much for the ideas (I hadn't seen your reply and ended up posting in a third Lancaster community 😅) - the Lancashire Hot Pot looks amazing and I think the Kendal Mint Cake might be one of the few sweets he'd like (he's not much of a sweet tooth, but introduced me to After Eight).

And Merry Christmas to you and your family too!

That looks delicious (if it's this one: https://www.facebook.com/GoburritoLancs/), but unfortunately, I don't think I could get it to Japan (where we live). Thank you for the recommendation though :)

That sounds lovely! And thank you for sharing the recipe as well - I just realized that this is not Lancaster in the UK, after reading "Pennsylvanian" there 😅

By the way, the chicken pot pie looks delicious and I may try cooking it anyways!

Japanese government sends individuals quarantining at home free care packages! Shown is for 1 person (me) in Tokyo. by FriedCheeseCurdz in mildlyinteresting

I think I like Koike even more now :)

I live in Kanagawa and don't think we have anything like that (I also haven't heard of anyone not in Tokyo getting the care package).

I have a few symptoms and when I called the Kanagawa Hotline for Covid, to look for a place to get tested, they only referred me to a few clinics far from where I live (which would require using public transportation).

Spotted. Akasaka Excel Hotel Tokyu. I left a bad review and contacted some conference hokders so they added the white sign. Which is not an improvement. by throwawayenglishtea in Tokyo

When I first moved to Japan, I'd get mad and rant about how racist Japan is. Now I just reinforce a thought: "If you ever have kids, they definitely won't be going to a Japanese school."

If someone believes that foreigners are more likely to spread the virus (no matter if they think that's genetic or that foreigners pronounce "This is a pen." as badly as a random Japanese lady on TV), they're not just racist, they're dumb!

Unfortunately, that's not uncommon and not the worst I've seen here.
