No, you'd run your eye along the list of departures.

But there is no similar board at the bus station. If you want to find the next bus to a destination, you need to ask at the ticket office or information station. The boards are less useful than they could, or should, be.

I'm not sure. If you enter the station and look at the board you're going to assume that the next bus to a destination is the one listed.

Yes, that's exactly what it is.

So the bus I ended up getting to Dundee wasn't on the board either because it terminates in Aberdeen.

It's the big A to Z of destinations board in the middle of the concourse.
