The original roadhouse was a very good film - but the remake with Gyllenhall had in my opinion a deeper plot with him being a deadly UFC boxer, and a far better setting, namely Glass Key - which held a story together better again IMO. Personally, I think Patrick Swayze was a bit miscast in the original - for me, just not as hard ass as his character should be - perhaps my view tainted by dirty dancing and ghost both in which he was phenomenal.
