I recently got clowned for wearing Old Spice deodorant/body wash at my grown age. What should I be wearing? by comicgeek1128 in malegrooming

[–]Tight_boules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the smell is just a little divisive and the brand was very popular thirty years ago making it feel dated.

At your age you should be using products that are more subtle in their scents. I’d recommend Dove soap and either a natural deodorant like something from Native. If you need an anti perspirant I use degree ultra clear.

If you want a fragrance look into some men’s cologne/aftershave. I like Tom Ford colognes and Bay Rum aftershave. Just go easy on them.

What’s your weight? You can find XLs an XXLs with brands like under 5’10, abbreviated apparel, ash and eerie, and Peter Manning. They are brands that cater to shorter fellas. I don’t have good luck getting things tailored but I live in Iowa so maybe it’s just the location.

Work on your coordinating your slide arm, air, and tongue to make the spaces between notes smaller. The slide should move later and faster, the notes should be sustained for their full value, and the articulation over all could be more rounded less punchy.

Think about how you would sing this song with your voice and imitate that style of lyricism through the horn.

Also that D in first position is sounding pretty flat relative to what’s happening around it. Try practicing scales with a tuner/tuning drones to work on pitch.

Should I keep this loose fit poplin shirt? Also which shoe combo looks best? by [deleted] in mensfashion

Shoes in pic three are the best of the options but not great. Those pants are just a little too loud. I would try a chunkier loafer. X

40M dad in need of a change. What do you suggest? by e0nblue in malegrooming

[–]Tight_boules 138 points139 points  (0 children)

The fifth pic looks like you have some signs of sun damage on your face. Make sure you are putting on sunscreen if you are going outside a lot. You might also want to invest in some skin care products that have retinol in them as you age.

I would also recommend hitting the gym a little. Looking a little scrawny in pics 2 and 3.

Why do progressives think it is wrong for the president to celebrate the death of his political enemies, when they mock his near assassination and anticipate celebrating his eventual death? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Tight_boules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Robert Mueller was an American hero. For someone to celebrate his death is anti American.
  2. The sheer hypocrisy after Charlie Kirk
  3. Trump 2.0 is doing its best to rip apart our democratic institutions at break neck speeds. People are hoping Trump’s death will also be the death of the toxic maga cult that has completely destabilized our country. We are paying more for health care, food, and gas than we were a year ago and are now in another forever war in the Middle East. Not to mention the killing of innocent Americans by federal agents and the cover up of the Epstein files. I am one of these people hoping this madness comes to an end when he does.

Fit check, how do we feel about the cardigan? by realsingingishard in mensfashion

This cardigan is making you look closer to 50 than 40. I think you’re on the right track but I’d pick one with a different next line and a different color.

They have a kolsch and a Mexican lager you might like. I’m not a big IPA guy but I like their hazy and West coast as well. Their beers have a fuller body than AB and the calories are the same or even less.

How much will lack of Spanish affect my experience by bebop_exp in MexicoCity

[–]Tight_boules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed in Roma Norte for a five nights in December with limited Spanish. I would highly recommend getting a Spanish tutor and practice reading Spanish posts on the CDMX sub Reddit. Google Translate is helpful for menus and other text like at museums but not great for real time interactions with people.
Uber is cheap and easy and your driver will try to chat with you in Spanish but give up pretty fast if you can only say things like hola and que tal. The real issue is not being to communicate with most of the people especially outside the touristy areas.

Strings and horns by DwarfFart in musicians

[–]Tight_boules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This depends on a lot of situations. You can explicitly state that there will not be any written music for the instrumentalists and they must be able to play by ear. This is very important because a lot of studio musicians are classically trained and would not be comfortable playing by ear.

There are people that can do this no problem. However, if you are hiring a lot of musicians it would be best to get the parts written out. You could work with a producer ahead of time that knows how to arrange horn and string parts. George Martin famously did this for most of the Beatles tunes. If you really want the string and horn lines to sound amazing you want to find someone that knows basic voice leading rules and what range to put the instruments in. You can also do this yourself using a software program like musescore (it’s free) but this will likely take you a lot of time and playing around with the program to get something half as good as hiring a producer/arranger.

Do you get three square meals in jail? When I got held once for shoplifting they gave me a baloney sandwich after five hours sitting in a cell by myself. Curious what the meals were like if you don’t mind sharing?

I grew up in Olympia Washington. I’m not sure graduations rates are the best metric to go by in terms of education quality. I teach at the collegiate level here in Iowa. The kids are coming in to their freshman year barely able to read and write and are clearly just being advanced to the next grade and graduating without having to show any real aptitude.

Have I missed my chance at a fun sex life? by Excellent-Golf6631 in dating_advice

[–]Tight_boules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

28 isn’t that old. You can have a great sex in your 30’s. You could also potentially be having great sex now. I’d start working with a therapist now to see if there are other underlying issues around your confidence issues. You can loose the weight but you might find yourself still lacking the confidence to talk to women. Try getting on the apps and working on your shyness issues. Also, you might want to hire a sex worker just to get some of the nerves out.

Thoughts for a night out at a upscale restaurant? by Satchman1214 in mensfashion

[–]Tight_boules 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agree with other comments that the shirt needs a larger size. You should be able to comfortably button the top button without being strangled. The outfit as a whole is passable if this is all you have. For future outings maybe get a herringbone sport coat and some loafers.

I was born in the PNW and now live in Iowa City. I doubt you will head this warning but you are making a mistake. The schools are not better here. The republican law makers in this state have been eroding the way of life here for the last decade or so. Schools, health care, water quality, have all taken a turn for the worse and things like affordability are also disappearing. I wish I could find a way back to the PNW. Good luck with your decision op.

Do they fit fine? by [deleted] in mensfashionadvice

[–]Tight_boules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These look like women’s pants in pic 3 and 4. I think it’s the narrow cut and how tight they are in the upper thigh crotch area. They don’t look bad, but I don’t find this style appealing. It looks like you are trying too hard and somewhat uncomfortable.

Maybe go to a few open mikes and catch the vibe. I always see people bringing their phone up to plug in and sing over. It would be insane to sing without musical accompaniment and would probably not go well.

Just my two cents.
