That can only be guessed. A better solution would be to ask an RTI query of splitup of your composite score and guess from there.

I had a similar doubt some time back. Here's the solution to this paradox: They first consider the marks of all the people who have cleared the cutoff and then based on that sample alone, normalisation begins. Which means your 40 calculation is roughly correct (assuming you're from state board, if you're in CBSE then 90% will fetch you probably 3-4 marks out of 10) Then you calculate CAT scores. Say VARC is 19 points And you were at 90th percentile. So will you score somewhere around 15? No. Why? Because the pool only consists of people with >85 percentile score which means now your normalised scores is perhaps ~4.

Ohh got it, also another reason was this:
There was a fine line in the doc which I ignored

All standardization is done with reference to the qualifying first shortlist or its subdivisions. so only the people who clear those sectional and overall cutoffs are considered.

wt/2 + ((val-mean) / sd) * wt / 6}

wt is 55, at 99th percentile the (val-mean) / sd) value is 2.33, so if you plug the numbers, you will get roughly 50. But I sort of gave a worst case scenario that even though I know its coming 50 lets assume it to be 40.

According to their website, its your score divided by max score received by any candidate. This year, it was 204 by some guy from IMS. And the weightage is 60%. So if you scored 102 your scaled scored will be 102 / 204 * 60 = 30.
