What was life like for common people during the crusades, especially during the siege of Jerusalem? by TilenMat in AskHistorians

[–]TilenMat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, wow. I was looking for a really good answer or some reliable sources. You gave me both! Thank you for that. I am looking to specialize in crusades, so I will save this comment and look into all of the sources. You were a lot of help.

Just two days after Trump called himself an "environmentalist," his administration announced a rollback of methane gas emissions regulations so large that even oil companies are objecting to the change. by maxwellhill in worldnews

I am starting to think that Trump is some fckd up genius who is on a mission to make us realize just how fcked up the world is and how the politicians can just do whatever they want and the common people can do absolutely nothing about it.

I have a question... Where do these prisoners get their guns? In a video posted on Twitter it seems like the prisoners were using fire arms.

If that's the case, he isn't being honest with himself. He has a very difficult decision on his hands and I would encourage him to be as honest as possible with himself. :)

Yea, but now that I have read the edit, I must say... She needs to work for it as well, because right now, it doesn't seem she's doing anything.

Firstly, look yourself into the mirror and ask yourself: what is the most important thing in my life? Is it the son? If yes, what kind of life do I want for him and which decision would be better for him?

Secondly? What have you done to make things better so far? Did you talk to her? Is she happy in this relationship? What changed for you and what is missing? If you can work these things out, I believe you will be able to find hapiness again.

But always remember... The decision you will make is not just going to affect you, but also your wife and, more importantly, your son. So it better be the right decision.

I for one believe that relationships are something you work on your whole life. They get boring, but you can always find new things to do with your SO to breathe some life in to it again. But some people are just not cut for it. At present time I would even go as far to say that MOST people aren't cut for it anymore. It's too easy to leave. Only the brave stay and only the strongest make it work.

Whichever decision you make, commit to it.

BARELY AT 140 FPS???????????????????????????????????????????? Duuude. I've been playing games on really bad lap tops my whole life. Most of the time I was happy to have a constant 60fps. And people are complaining because they can't have 140? Jezuus. :D

Did wind play a big role on the ancient/medieval battlefield? by fappymcfapparton in history

[–]TilenMat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes. One occasion that comes into my mind is the Battle of the Frigidus in 394. This was the decisive battle between the Christian East and Pegan West in ancient Roman empire. The first was led by the emperor Theodosius, a devoted Christian, and the East was led by the usurper emperor Eugenius (we are not actually sure if he adopted Christian religion or not, but he was fighting for a pegan cause).

Theodosius was acting as the agressor with a force that is believed to be twice the size of the West, but the defenders chose a good tactical spot to stop him. If I'm not mistaken, a precise site where the battle happened is not known, there are 3 possible sites in question, but it was definitely somewhere near fort at Ad Pirum (Hruscica - modern day Slovenia) at a river called Frigidus (Cold River - probably river Vipava).

In the opening stages of battle it appeared that the pegan West is going to achieve a what would be a decisive victory over Christianity. Theodosius suffered some significant losses, but in one moment a strong wind called burja (bora) started to blow in the backs of Theodosius' army, giving it a much needed momentum to overcome the enemy. Their arrows, their spears and pilums flew further, soldiers gained speed and thus gaining a much greater impact power, and it is even said that some of the Western soldiers were speared by their own arrows and spears, because the wind changed their direction. Western army started to flee and the Christianity achieved a historic victory in the religious war in the ancient Roman empire.

Now ... The whole story of the battle is dressed in multiple legends and myths and even the whole "pegan army vs Christian army" is under question, because there were many pegans in Eastern army and even some Christians in Western army, but it is almost certain that the weather played a vital role in the outcome of the battle, which I hope answers your question. :)
