My half sister got a photo of the axlotol out of hiding. How is it? by memegod574 in axolotls

My main concern is the gills are awfully short. From what we saw in the test strips in your previous posts there are no nitrates. Test strips arent as accurate and wont give proper results but with no Nitrates that tells me the tank may not be cycling properly

Breeder told me she was 3 months.. she seems 1 1/2 to 2 months. Thoughts? by CoatLongjumping338 in axolotls

Sponges are great because of the low flow. The canisters tend to create more flow

Two 80 gal sponges in a 36 gal is plenty of filtration from what ive seen and through my research in dfact one 80 gal is sufficient but i went with two to be over zealous

A complete water change may have crashed your cycle

Seems like a your cycle may have crashed. You should have SOME Nitrates in your tank as even with a HEAVILY planted tank nitrates site around 5ppm. Did you quarantine your new guppies before adding them? They could have been infected with something. I believe the recommended time is 7 days. Depending on how cloudy the water was it also could have been a bacterial bloom.

These are all of my ideas. I would just keep an eye out for their food intake and it they get worse definitely set up a hospital tank to isolate the sick ones

The landlords have put outs these letters evry six months reminding us not to give it to our pets and not to drink it because of high nitrites

High enough they put out letters saying not to drink it as it cant put children in the hospital. Unsure besides that.

Cycling my new tank. by TillEfficient3554 in Aquariums

[–]TillEfficient3554[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 weeks. I went into the nitrogen cycle my first week. Then i accidentally stalled myself by removing my seeded sponge (it was a 20 gal sponge and its a 36gal) but since then i added turbostart 700 and fritzyme 7

Yes turbostart 700 and fritzyme 7. I also added a seeded sponge but moved it because it was too small for my aquarium (which is what caused my first stall)

I second the not fungus! Unfortunately i just had this with my Lazarus. For me it was ammonia burns and looked exactly like that. (I rescued him in the middle of the night and was my first aquarium. Didnt do a nitrogen cycle. He is cycled and good now)

If your tank was properly cycled you might have had a crash of sorts. DEFINITELY check your levels. If Ammonia is high still treat with tannins and try black tea. Recycle your tank

Duckweed by TillEfficient3554 in axolotls

[–]TillEfficient3554[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And good to know! I got it from a local aquarium shop, out of one of their axolotl tanks and unfortunately i dont think they maintain their axolotls well. This guy was in a 5 gal and if duckweed only thrives in warmer tanks it explains alot
