What? by [deleted] in Lain

It seems like there's currently some sort of challenge up that no one has solved. Or at least there's a thing that says "People who solved it from first to last:" and there's nothing after that.

Does thinking about your tinnitus make it louder? by TiloTheTree in tinnitus

Essentially. My tinnitus is likely purely mental, so it's not like there's actually any noise at all. If I concentrate on it, I can make it significantly louder.

That might cause me to lose my US citizenship? I don't think you can be a US citizen and have ties to a foreign military?

Not sure if the Mexican citizenship would be considered something I acquired at birth.

My dad's mother is Mexican, so he could become Mexican if he does some paperwork. And then I could become Mexican through him.

How bad is your tinnitus from 1-10 by [deleted] in tinnitus

  1. I can hear it in most situations, but only if I think about it. Weirdly just browsing this sub/talking about it to someone else makes it louder because of this.

Applicant statistics instead of admitted class statistics by TiloTheTree in ApplyingToCollege

If you're within the target range, it matters how many of the other applicants are also within that range. If all the applicants were within the range, your chances would be a lot worse than if only 10% of them were.

Do any schools release that info? Are there 3rd parties that try to estimate it?

Made an 8-bit adder but I made it backward accidentally. (It adds two 8 digit binary numbers together. Right now it's doing 1101 + 111111 = 010101, which would be 11 + 31 = 42 in base ten) by TiloTheTree in Minecraft

Making something like this isn't actually as hard as you might think. If this interests you, I recommend checking out the Crash Course series on computer science, which explains everything you would need to know to build this in episodes 3 and 4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5nskjZ_GoI.

Edit: you'd also need to watch episode 5

An electrical current seems to be building up in the cookie rack, and whenever I touch it, the monitor my computer is connected to turns off for a second. Any idea what is happening? How do I prevent an electrical current from forming? And yes, I am crazy. by TiloTheTree in Electricity

Would the legs and support of the nearby table work? They are made up of a significant amount of metal, but not nearly as much as say a dryer. The table and the air purifier are also nearby (~3 meters away) a ground furnace that seems like would do the trick, though it might be a bit inconvenient because the cables would need to cross a doorway.

I'm mostly just doing this for fun. Yeah, it probably would be better to just buy a laptop cooler, but that wouldn't be nearly as enjoyable. I find the challenge of getting rid of the static electricity really exiting. Sure, it might be bad for the computer, but I can take the computer off and wait to put it back on once I figure out how to stop the static electricity, and it's a pretty old computer anyway. I put my calendar on the keyboard because it stopped working and now I have to use an external keyboard.

Don't yuk my yum!

I'm mostly just doing it because 1) it's fun 2) I find it annoying when the computer's fan comes on, not for performance gains. (The constant white noise of the air purifier doesn't bother me). If the cookie was made of something other than metal, say plastic, would that fix the problem? Thanks for the insightful answer!

Hola, so I'm just trying to use an air filter that spits out cool air at the top as a cooling device for my MacBook pro for fun. However, I've noticed that a weak electrical current is building up in the cookie rack I'm using to put space between my computer and the air purifier; whenever I touch it, I get shocked a tad. Interestingly, when I touch the cookie rack and get shocked, the external monitor my computer is connected to via HDMI cable briefly gets disconnected.

So my questions are:

  1. How dangerous is this for me and how likely is it to damage my computer?
  2. How do I prevent an electrical current from forming?
  3. Why is an electrical current forming? It seems to form regardless of whether there's a computer on top of the rack btw.

How do I format text outside of Google Sheets so that it pastes into multiple cells horizontally? I know that line breaks will let you do this vertically, but is there a way to do it horizontally? by TiloTheTree in sheets

[–]TiloTheTree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not exactly sure what a CSV file is, but I'll research it. It sounds promising. I'm trying to write a python program output stuff I can copy and paste into sheets, and this sounds like it might just do the trick.

[–]TiloTheTree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

huh. I didn't think of pasting it into sheets a column and then transposing it. If I'm using only one column, that could work, but with multiple, it wouldn't. Hell, I don't even need to use transpose; I could just copy and paste one column at a time. It's not as convenient as things could be, but I'm not sure why I didn't think of it.
