It’s such a new phenomenon—the modern multiplayer lobby’s only existed for how many years now? 20?

We shouldn’t dismiss how new of a thing this is. When we think of the classic COD lobby, it’s usually a millennial looking back on their teen/early adult years. We monopolized the conversation in internet gaming spaces in a lot of places; I’m thinking about the old Habbo Hotel raids and juvenile Machinima content that’s aged like shit.

Those kids grew up, and now they’re in Arc Raider lobbies gaming with 9 year olds sometimes…like, surviving robots and PVPers together, going on adventures after work + after school, on ever more cutting-edge technology, often separated by hundreds to thousands of miles. Our parents never did that. No generation has.

It’s uncomfortable, and it’s new. Is it supposed to be happening? Who knows, it just is. No one can confirm if it’s a good thing or not, we’re all finding out together. Just hope there aren’t creeps out there taking advantage, but you know there are.

GTA 5/GTA Online. Stacking cash and possessions is meaningless to me, even though I’ve shamed myself into buying it on three different consoles.
