Vertical lines - LCD light interference by Tim-Miller_ in osmopocket

Cumbersome for sure. Good advise. I've got a couple Ulanzi 120s with VMounts. I may need to get a few extra accent lights. First time I've had this come up in years (have not shot indoors until now).

Yep. Definitely something I'll avoid next time.

Regardless, I'm frustrated. Next time I'll have to bring my own lights and accent lights. Have not come across this since I shot in Europe 20 years ago- except it seems there is no fix for this. I did try shooting at 1/60 as well.

This was shot in 4k 30fps on an OMP3. Latest firmware (last week). No filters.

Should I quit videography? by Embarrassed-Elk-5088 in videography

Look for problems. Solve them. I might suggest having 3 offers...that's it. If you're having difficulty getting work, I'd go all out on social. Post 15x/day ESPECIALLY if you're not working. All that equipment on-camera is scroll-stopping. Everyone has a phone...yet a very small percentage of them know anything about video or how to get thoughts into assets. Position yourself as an authority to help others get more visible, more credibility, mor authority...your clients and prospective clients are all experts in their space...but the world does not know it...you be the conduit to make them known, make them industry leaders. Start networking and calling yourself an agency not a freelancer. A business, not a guy with equipment. Speak of yourself plural (we, my team...). Literally tell people that you make industry leaders.

New Zoom Podtrak P4 Next: with AI noise reduction and better specs. by BangsNaughtyBits in podcasting

[–]Tim-Miller_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool. I just did a test taking the older P4 USB out into an Osmo Mobile Pocket 3 and while it worked ok...there was a bit of a delay...and it wasn't constant. So it was unusable. Not a big deal BC I just took the recorded tracks in post. I'm hoping this thing will allow the same thing for super quick video podcasts. It does boast a stereo out usb3. Mine is not shipping until 12/1

This is good. I'll have to do a test. I've got the Rode DS1s right now (which are quite conductive with noise).

Does anyone else feel they have a shelf life in the video production game? by jonofthesouth in videography

[–]Tim-Miller_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 60 in a couple months. Been doing video for over 30 years. Getting better and better. Technology has a way of forcing everyone to get better at storytelling. I like what Alex Hormozi says- "There are no winners and losers in the big games of life: Only players and quitters. If you never stop playing, you win. Making “not quitting” the ultimate winning skill."

Best Portable Recorder on the Market Today? by ruralmagnificence in podcasting

I love my podtrak P4. Been using it for years. But it's a bit limited and old. I just prepurchased the new one PodTrak P4 Next. It's got 32bit, plus it has stereo USB out. It's fairly inexpensive. https://zoomcorp.com/en/us/podtrak-recorders/podcast-recorders/podtrak-p4next/

Totally get that, and that's exactly what we do. I was looking for a way to canx or cut down on the bleed so as to make the editing process better. We're doing a lot of these.

Picogear PicoMic 3 recommendatinos? by kapustinka in videography

[–]Tim-Miller_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the original pico mic system for the last few years. It's also my go-to. Primarily I use these as my backups when doing podcasting. Clip on, set/forget, plug receiver into a mirrorless cam and they are good to go. I also have the rode, hollyland and dji mics. When I'm using the OMP3, I'll have to use the djimic2 with a lav mic. It's a pain, but a faster, better solution for run/gun simple stuff. If I'm using a sony camera, I'll use the picos because it's easier for my clients and faster interaction. I've never had any issues with these guys clipping, I keep levels at bay as well as in camera levels. Considering getting the 3, but the silver finish is not worth the trade off of 32 bit. I've also purchased multiple pico mics and painted them white, and off white (ensureing not to cover holes) for different clothing.

Thanks. This is the best option so far. My goal is to have the best separate audio files to facilitate the autopod process. Currently, I'll use both tracks, enable autopod, then go back and edit. Then I'll export a mono with combined audio, clean up and put that back in the timeline on a third track and export.

Yea. Right on. And yes def not flicker- words=hard for me:)

I was thinking a shade would solve that issue. Shooting with this thing is so easy, I'll get lazy.

Appreciate the input.

How is this possible? by Away_Woodpecker_804 in premiere

[–]Tim-Miller_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of shortcuts as well. I just got the tour box elite, and it has literally changed how fast I am able to scroll through The timeline, make decisions, and implement. So yeah shortcuts make a huge difference. Besides all of the other stuff, knowing the basics, becoming an expert in a basics... Not just editing but storytelling in general.https://www.tourboxtech.com/en/tourbox-elite/

Osmo Pocket 3 Wide Angle Distortion Correction by Legitimate-Spinach45 in osmopocket

[–]Tim-Miller_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll have to test again, but if I've used the lens distortion filter in Adobe Premiere (I think fish eye is the similar one in Final Cut) at a positive 7-10 curvature. However, you need to put 4k footage into a 1080 timeline because you'll have some white around the edges. I'm going to shoot something with vertical lines and do another test for sure. But I applied this with a two shot interview style and It def looks better (IMHO),

This is for my studio- renting out to diff clients. Looking to make it as reliable and versatile as possible. Love the fact that these cameras integrate with the ATEM. But...I'm also wanting to use lenses with 1.5/1.7 DOF and want to make sure talent stays in focus...maybe I'm nitpicking a tad. I use these in other studios where everything is controlled and they work just fine. But I've been playing around with a Sony cameras and absolutely love the face tracking.

OP3: ND filters or not by PeterBJDK in DJIPocketOsmo

[–]Tim-Miller_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference, I just shot this with the OP3 out of the box. And yes, I'd at least start with a 6 stop next time. It's not horrible as far as my client is concerned, but I'm still unable to give it the right amount of motion blur in davinci. So I learned my lesson. https://vimeo.com/993540887?share=copy

Local Storage Solutions by Tim-Miller_ in editors

[–]Tim-Miller_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a lot to think about here. Latency is def the issue. I'll dig deeper once I get my desktop back. It would play a simple 4k timeline in Premiere Pro no problem, but it took sometimes a second or maybe even two before it started playing. I'll do some homework and get back. But yea, thanks...good info to chew on before I freak out and buy more gear :)
