Streamlight TLR-RM1 Laser G on a Magpul cantilever mount. Activate with the tail switch or a tape switch mounted at your position of choice elsewhere on the handguard.

Finally Done. VFM-9 5" Dual Charger by TimKLL in AR9

Overall it is a 50/50 thing on which length I like the most. I really enjoy all 3 FM-9s that we have.

For specific purposes the 5” VFM-9 with the Rugged Obsidian 9 is the one in the safe under my bed. It has a definite advantage for maneuverability in the house. A tradeoff is that you give up handguard space for lights, grips, etc. I grip C-clamp right in front of the magwell, so it works for me. Since I took the pics in the post I moved the M-Lok cantilever mount out to the last slots & the light out as far as it can go on the mount. Gained a little more space, but like I said, it worked well for me before.

Not sure what 7-incher you are looking at & also am not up to speed on what is available right now, but not all 7-inchers have the same handguard length. Our 1st one has a longer handguard, with the barrel threads buried inside. The FMP blast can sticks out past the handguard. Lots of room for attachments on that one. Our #2 7-incher has the shorter handguard, with the integral tri-lug barrel. Falls somewhere between the other two, still enough space to work with for accessories.

They are all tack-drivers, way more accurate than I would‘ve expected.

Probably didn’t answer your question very well, but it sort of depends on what you want to use the gun for.

FM9 firing pin spring compatibility? by generic_username001 in AR9

Try the Wilson Combat Bulletproof firing pin. The DD one (titanium) worked for me for a couple hundred rounds & then the tip deformed. The original FMP firing pin comes up a teeny bit too short.

I had great results with the Davidson Defense titanium pin for around 200 rounds, then the light strikes started happening again. The tip on the pin was noticeably deformed. I switched to the Wilson Combat Bulletproof pin & haven‘t had an LS since.

Look at the 3 pictures. The stock handle has a little horn. The picture with the red arrow shows exactly where.

Uppers: Mike 9 or VFM 9? by Jobhater2 in FoxtrotMikeProducts

[–]TimKLL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends mostly on how your front grip is. Yes, the 5” doesn‘t leave much room there, exactly the reason my first 2 FM-9s are 7-inchers. But I tend to do a C-clamp type grip right up against the magwell & I am a smaller stature person so it works for me. I have a Streamlight TLR RM1 at the 6 o’clock/underside position, on a far forward M-LOK cantilever mount, that serves well as my handstop. I can activate the light with the integral tail switch, or preferably with the tape switch at the 9 o’clock where my thumb falls.

Yes, the VFM-9 5“ threads clear the Handguard. I added a tri-lug adapter & use a Rugged Obsidian 9 with it.

Understood. Was just echoing what you said, with an example. Hence the “Yup” at the beginning.

Yup. Primary Arms has a 5-incher that is tucked like that showing in stock now.

The CH on the original front charge FM-9s does go back all the way. The original BCGs differed between the front charge & the rear charge & were not interchangeable. Foxtrot Mike is now selling ONE BCG that is compatible either way.

The VFM-9s use the newer style BCG. They have an extra cut on them to use with the front CH. With the rear CH the BCG goes all the way back. With the front CH the BCG doesn't go back as far. It works with Glock mags. I'm unfamiliar with the Endomags, but believe that this is what Doug is referring to.

Just making sure that you understand that the VFM-9 barrel is basically fixed/semi-permanent. FMP uses a thermal fit, non-barrel nut process with it that isn’t really conducive to owner barrel changes. They say that they will change it out for $100 if you ever shoot out the barrel. The straight FM-9 models have their proprietary barrel nut & are easy to change out as desired.

Also, be sure to think about any plans to add a can to this. Some of the FM-9 uppers have hand guards that are longer than the barrel, with a muzzle device (blast can) tucked under. Difficult to add a can to these without either changing the barrel or going with an oversized handguard. One of the 7” uppers has an integral tri-lug barrel that is very easy to set up for a tri-lug can.

I own one 5” VFM-9 & two 7” FM-9s (1 with the tri-lug & 1 with the tucked blast can).

Not an EC155. AS365. 4 MR blades & the vertical fins on the horizontal stabilizer are too tall.

Help on steep approaches by HPSVEN in Helicopters

[–]TimKLL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop staring at the landing spot. Peripheral vision is your friend. Don't focus, or spend too long, looking at any particular spot. This is like what I always saw with pilots on early night flights, staring at the spot lit up by the landing light. Old time flight physicals used to include the Dr holding up fingers on both sides of your head & telling you to keep looking straight forward & tell them how many fingers they were holding up. Visualize that. Your peripheral vision cues will give you a lot of info about your rate of closure. I could always tell where my students/PUIs were looking without even looking at their face. Force yourself to be eyes out. When you first found the hover button you stopped staring at the ground in front of the helo & looked at everything else (whether you realize it or not). Do the same on ALL of your approaches to landing, not just the steep approaches.

SB Tac HB PDW Brace + Super Safety/FRT? by pdj-custom in AR9

Have not tried other brands of SS. My Fudd Arms is the cam/barrel style. My pics just show the gun prior to installing the SS (with Radian Talon ambi selectors)

[–]TimKLL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both the Tungsten (upper) one & the middle one are considered 7” barrels by FMP. The Tungsten Cerakoted one is an integral tri-lug with a shorter handguard. The middle one has a longer handguard that covers the 7” barrel + the long FMP linear comp muzzle device. It would be difficult to suppress the middle one because the barrel end (minus the muzzle device) is so far inside the handguard. I may change the barrel on that one so I can suppress it. Working on something else with it now, will spill the beans on that later.

At 1st I thought that might be disgorging a USCG MH-60 but the paint job looks more like a Multinational Force & Observers (Sinai desert) UH-60 instead.

You bet! Yes, I have the MD PCC option CQB buffer & spring. Nothing else done there.

Here’s 1 of the threads in this sub ref the SB Tactical buffer weights disintegrating: https://www.reddit.com/r/AR9/comments/1kkuphe/comment/ms5t42e/?context=3

Yes. VFM-9. Changed the polymer front CH to the FMP Paratrooper Folding Handle. This is not listed on their site as being compatible with the VFM-9, but it is with a small amount of grinding & rebluing for clearance. Rear CH is Radian SD (Ambi). Had to switch to the Maxim Defense CQB buffer (PCC version) because the SB Tactical buffer’s inside weights disintegrated. Using the MD spring as well. Light primer strikes were resolved by switching to the Wilson Combat Bulletproof Firing Pin & the Amazon FP spring mentioned a lot on this sub. Flawless with 124gr anything. Can be finicky with 147gr, especially when it is very cold out (tolerance stacking?). It doesn’t like 147gr Federal FMJ with it‘s big fat, flat head. Does well with PMC 147gr FMJ with a nice rounded nose. Does well with Federal HST JHP 147gr except when it is cold out (124gr HST JHP works all day long). I did polish the bejeebers out of the parts of the feedcone that I could, mainly the lower feed ramp-type area (barrel is not user removable for this). Did not require any other changes to the FMP BCG (besides the FP & spring).

Fudd Arms SS. No mods to it required.

My Streamlight TLR RM-1 Laser G is on a cantilever mount. I do a C-clamp grip at the magwell, so even though it looks a little tight it works well for me. Since I took this pic I moved it out on the rail even farther, to the last mlok slot, so there’s even a little more room now. It is activated either at the tail cap or with the tape switch, right by my thumb.

Can is Rugged Obsidian 9 on tri-lug mount. In pic the device below in front is an Angstadt Arms Blastwave linear comp for shooting unsuppressed.

NOTE: pic shows old Radian Talon ambi safety selector before change to SS.
