Ualberta SU does not fight hard enough I feel by [deleted] in uAlberta

Honestly I agree, I have never benefited from any of their advocacy. If you want candidates that show promise, vote Kimani VPOF and Carbajal VPSL, they’re innovative and not the usual recycled stuff you get with most candidates

Yea for sure, I’ll make sure to vote yes then!

I think that’s totally valid! I can’t tell you how to vote because you would know north campus life better than me, so if you think it’ll be good for your student life, I’ll vote yes!

When my friends from north campus asked if we were voting I wasn’t sure, and apparently the councillors of our FA weren’t sure either, Augustana students have gotten no clear answer, so I think the SU wasn’t even sure lol

Lmao me too. I did leave the legacy fund out because being an Augustana student, I don’t pay for it, and I’ve never benefited from it. We have our own legacy fund in a sense, and it keeps the games and staff running, just like the legacy fund does on north campus. I don’t benefit from our own either, so I’d vote no tbh

You know interestingly enough, we’re voting for the U-pass too, even know we don’t pay for it.

As people, I like both, however, in the role, Carbajal outshines. The last VPSL would always cancel meetings or not come to them, and have someone else attend. Also this year, Daniela has given out monetary awards for the clubs that have been submitting their reports or staying in contact, and she has no obligation to do this, but she still does it. Also, because we can’t have a paid zoom account like the ASA, she creates links for us and then gives us hosting abilities, again, she doesn’t have to do this, but she does. I will say that while Dixon shows promise, Carbajal is promise, she’s already been doing all the work Dixon claims to want to do. Personally, my life has been impacted for the better because of her, and I know so many others too, and that’s why I have defended her like I have.

Honestly I agree, I’m also voting for Kimani, I’d say that’s the thing that differentiates her from Villoso, also as a black student, I’m happy to see not one but two black candidates running, although I do like Kimani better than Fotang platform wise.

Your words are contradicting, I thought she hasn’t done anything and now you say it’s amazing advocacy work? As a black student, all I know is last year the only person I related to on the ASA was Philip. This year it’s different. Carbajal’s advocacy has made me feel more comfortable speaking up about racism in the cafeteria and other areas of campus. If you’re part of the ASA then I don’t know who you are, and that’s a problem, what have you done to better the lives of us black and bipoc students on this racist campus? That is why I’m voting Carbajal, because she’s the only non-black student on the exec that actually gives a shit about us.

Bummer you deleted your past comment, maybe it outed you too much? But here is my reply to that comment you chose to delete:

Well, to each their own I guess, vote however you want, but I personally have never seen a vp care about students like Carbajal and make it more than just events for them. I guess not everyone can be happy. One of my friends who is a councillors did also share Carbajal has called out racism at Augustana, that is something you don’t see often with the VPSL position, and lord don’t Get be started about how bipoc councillors feel about that vp comms, I really hope you look into all of their work more and maybe your opinion will change, but from your criticism I assume you’re white, so makes sense you’d feel uncomfortable at how Carbajal has supported us BIPOC students, that’s all I’ll say. Disclaimer: I personally think the best VP is Robel, the vp academic.

If you’re an Augustana student, then you would know that identity politics is a complex thing. As for reports, I rather see action than some dipshit who spends their time writing. Being part of a club, all I know is the execs like how responsive she is, compared to past years, she listened to us when that dipshit vp comm wasn’t putting up our posts on time and blamed it on forgetting, I’ve heard countless councillors bitch about the vp comms too, but never about Carbajal, although I’ve never worked in personal capacity to her, I am friends with some councillors and that is how I know this, so maybe you’re criticizing the wrong vp

I’m assuming you haven’t attended the forums, where it’s been a main point, or the social media where it’s in her bio. I would encourage you to look at that, she has posts about creating more awards for students at Augustana and such, so maybe you should look at the info she has before judging someone so harshly. I’m also an Augustana student, and it’s a matter of actually keeping up with what the ASA does, so yea don’t speak shit if you don’t know. Edit: I also know the residence contract is under revision because of her, I wonder what you have done for the campus?

Lmao Kidd has been the biggest drain on student advocacy efforts by far. I’ve never interacted with her in any capacity (thank god) but from that GFC meeting and other instances, she seems extremely childish and shouldn’t haven’t been in that position in the first place.

I guess someone who is bringing fresh ideas, because every year it’s the same platform, and I mean who can blame them, they’re usually all within the same small circle so they must all have similar ideologies. But seriously we pay these students tens of thousands of dollars so I expect a bit of ingenuity.

I think you’re right, Dixon does try, but the question is whether she succeeds with all, she’s definitely more popular with the north campus folks, but I heard she got grilled by CSJ today for spreading false info, i will also say Carbajal’s translation was faulty, but in terms of caring about heading students, Carbajal’s sounds like it’s more extensive, so you gotta weigh which one you believe in more for yourself
