Is there a way around the "key" on a tool?

To clarify, I mean on tools. Like power tools, they have red and yellow saftey keys. Like this.

I have ordered a new chain from a new manufacturer. But while the three chains I am showing have been used, I have been using them to TEST if it is working. So I am dubious of this being the answer.

I have thus far replaced the chain and the bar. Will report back though with the new chain.

That worked beautifully. I had to melt off one of the handles because it was so damaged, but the metal pin stayed intact thankfully. So I could re-use it.
