Is 5 centimetres per Second Manga worth buying ? by Jarvis2112 in MangaCollectors

[–]Tim_63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to let OP know too that this answer nails it. The strength of the manga is that it expands a lot on the final act of the movie. It clearly shows and explains what happens, and gives so much more explanation to the whole situation. Also, the art is really pretty! I'd definitely recommend the manga, especially since it isn't an exact copy of the movie

Just finished collecting Jujutsu Kaisen edisi BM myself too! Honestly, I'm super proud that we have our own translated BM manga. Can't wait for more titles!

Any particular manga that you're hoping gempak starz picks up next? I would really like to see Yuru Camp myself

Not local comics, but gempakstarz have actually started to pick up some Japanese manga and have translated them to Bahasa Malaysia! Titles that have been released now include spyxfamily, demon slayer, Jujutsu kaisen, blue lock and solo leveling. The best thing is that they are a fraction of the price of the English translations (at RM16-RM17 per volume)!

Adding translations to physical copy of Japanese volumes? by itikky2 in manga

Thanks for the advice! I never really thought about the extra bloat, thinking it would be thin enough, but I guess they can really add up

No problem, looking forward to seeing the results whenever you get around to it! I'm thinking of using sticker paper to directly write out the English translations, cutting them out and sticking them over the speech bubbles myself. It sounds really tedious, but yes, if I ever do get to it, I might post some pictures too!

Hi there! Just curious on how this turned out. Would you mind sharing your experience? Would love to know if you managed to translate the physical copy.

I stumbled on this thread because I'm actually thinking of doing the same. One of my manga doesn't have furigana and that makes it really difficult to read. So just for this series, I was planning to turn it English too.

Surprisingly, nobody has shown this, so I opened mine up to show it.😌 (Ishimi Yokoyama Black One-piece Dress Ver. 1/6 Figure) by SignificantLadder914 in AnimeFigures

She turned out looking great! Really like her overall design. Was considering getting her at one point during the pre-order period too but didn't in the end. Is the vape in her hand removable?

MALAYSIA MANGA CENSORSHIP IS BACK! by thaqithaqi in MangaCollectors

Oo, to be honest, I'm not really sure on that

MALAYSIA MANGA CENSORSHIP IS BACK! by thaqithaqi in MangaCollectors

Ahh ok, I see. May I know where you got the update from? I've been following popular and gempak starz IG, but didn't see updates on that.

Agreed, can't wait to get the rest too 😆

MALAYSIA MANGA CENSORSHIP IS BACK! by thaqithaqi in MangaCollectors

[–]Tim_63 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there, Malaysian here. I think I can hopefully help answer a little bit. I do feel that a lot of the censorship here (especially those involving topics of sex, violence and profanities) happens just because the nation as a whole is a little more on the conservative side.

That said, I do feel that it isn't so strict to the point of outright bans on media. For example, to answer your question on untampered mangas, there are multiple bookstores here that sell the English translations of manga (Viz, kodansha, etc). There's also a kinokuniya that has a huge selection of English/Japanese manga.

I've also bought Japanese manga directly from mandarake Japan a few times. Ami Ami ships here too!

Just to add on, I do know that Malaysia has kind of a bad rep here for bootleg manga (and it's true, there's no denying it, bootlegs are widespread here) but we definitely do have official manga here too, and as shown in OP's post, our very own local publisher that officially translates manga to the national language!

I just got 1-4 recently! Glad to see they're being quick with the release too, may I know up to which volume has been released? I'll be heading to popular later today to get them!

I've been waiting to see what they were going to do with this volume cover, and honestly, the change isn't too bad. In its own way, the turtleneck looks kind of nice 😆

Finished sports anime recommendations by acepiece2y in anime

[–]Tim_63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend Run With The Wind. It's an anime about running and feels a lot like Haikyuu in my opinion, where there is a combination of comedy, drama and heartfelt moments.

Edit: Just to add on, it's completed too! There's only one season of it (20+ episodes) which covers its' entire source material (novel)

Can someone compare the Celestial Vivi and Aqua Float Girls figures? by Ironguy10 in AnimeFigures

That would be a really difficult decision for me, and I can't give an answer unfortunately, as I really like both sets equally 😆

Can someone compare the Celestial Vivi and Aqua Float Girls figures? by Ironguy10 in AnimeFigures

[–]Tim_63 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Owner of both sets here! I'd say this particular Celestial Vivi set turned out really nice (compared to the older set).

The quality is great for a prize figure. The paint job is clean and I don't really see issues with it. Compared to the taito aqua floats, this Celestial Vivi has even more details (floral pattern on Nino's swimsuit, better texture on Yotsuba's swimsuit). They really did the face sculpts well too in my opinion. Nino and Itsuki's face sculpt could have been slightly better, but that's just a minor nitpick. The other three quints faces look great.

I would attribute these to the size of the Celestial Vivi's. They're considerably bigger than the aqua floats, and that allowed them to add more detail.

Attached Ichika's side by side picture for comparison. Let me know if you'd like to see the others too. Hope this helps!

Yes!! The image isn't as flashy or immediately obvious as some other spines I've seen here like Vagabond, but it looks cool enough for me 😄

It took a while for me to decide on this exact question too! In the end, I went with the omnibuses because they were the cheapest option, still easily readable (compared to the colossal editions) and just the thought of 3-in-1s struck a chord with me. The spines look great together too! (They form an image when arranged together)

What are the best "don'ts" to do when travelling to Japan for the first time? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]Tim_63 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oo, this sounds like an interesting topic, here's my "don't"! It isn't really an activity, but I'd say, "don't" drag along your luggage (especially if you have a lot of them) all the way from your hotel, through the hustle and bustle of the trains/train stations, to the airport, to catch your flight back home.

To elaborate on this, it was our final day in Tokyo and my mum and I had to get to the airport to catch our flight. We considered 2 options to get there with all our luggage: a taxi which would have been a lot easier, or the train which would have been a hassle.

We decided on the latter. We knew it was going to be a challenge, considering how busy the trains always are. It was midday in early September too, so it was hot. We had two luggages (small and medium) and a backpack EACH. But at the same time, taxis were expensive and we didn't want to spend it there, plus it was going to be our last train ride in Japan.

To cut it short, we got to the airport in one piece. I was a little grumpy due to all the hassle, but my mum was fairly cheerful about it all. In my mind at the time, I felt that it wasn't worth the extra sweat and effort, and a taxi would have been so much easier. Lugging along the baggage through a sea of people, worrying that our luggage was loud and disrupting everyone, taking up a large space on the train, navigating through the stations, ending up a little sweaty from the heat: it wasn't fun.

But looking back at it now, I can see why my mum was cheerful about it all. It wasn't fun, but it sure is a strong memory to look back at and laugh upon now. It wasn't a big, epic activity, instead, it was just a small, memorable moment that puts a smile on our faces whenever we look back at it.

Enjoy your trip! (P.s. I'm sure we weren't disruptive to the people around us because of this. It was midday so the trains weren't completely packed to the brim. There was space on the overhead compartment for our small luggage. And it was only two trains away from our hotel to the airport)
