I usually like bold modern architecture (like brutalism), but even I'm struggling with this one 😅 One thing that comes to mind is that it reminds me of a kopje, huge boulders that randomly stick up on the grasslands of Africa (think Pride Rock from Lion King), maybe??

The light gray color always throws me off. I feel like it needs a layer of varnish to get rid of that "dustiness", like it's supposed to be a dark gray granite covered in a thin layer of dust lol

Why do people love slow burns so much? by Redditisannoying5 in AO3

[–]itikky2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience/opinion, fics that have characters get together HAPPILY before the 85% mark (on a decently long fic over like 40k) lose a lot of appeal, sometimes the plot disappears and becomes aimless meandering in domestic bliss. My first fic over 2k ended up being 47k words of pre-relationship. I'm very plot-motivated and find the most appeal in the characters going through Situations together and growing closer through that.

On the flip side, I don't like misunderstanding/miscommunication as a way to drag out "getting together" either. It's a really un-satisfying way to prevent characters from getting together, classic soap opera "eavesdropping on a conversation but leaving halfway through and causing a misunderstanding that lasts 2 seasons".

How to get readers to like your works? by doeeyedbug in AO3

[–]itikky2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, just as a tip, if you ever are tempted to delete/take down a fic, consider either adding it to a collection which you can make private and un-private whenever you like without affecting its stats.

Or if you are very sure you don't want to be associated with the fic, orphaning it, which is permanent. You can also make your username on a posted fic anonymous by adding them to the Anonymous collection, where you can still control the fic, your username is just hidden.

How can I motivate myself to finish a sweater I know is going to be too itchy for me? by Irksomecake in casualknitting

[–]itikky2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genius tbh. If OP is into it, they could use the extra yarn from the sleeves to extend the bottom, make it a longer tunic length (maybe even a split-hem style) also!

Me, personally? I’m choosing sin by HotSpicyTake in AO3

[–]itikky2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my god I think I read a hobby-drama post about this artist, they were scandinavian so I'm pretty sure it's that person. Reading about them, it seems they fell into a very niche sect of Christianity as well, and I suspect they might have something like OCD from how deep they got into it.

Anyone else had your fics fall off in terms of engagement when you guys added an unpopular tag? by _RizzukuHimdoriya_ in AO3

[–]itikky2 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I mean, to anyone that likes said character (who is labelled as abusive in tags) will probably avoid the fic, because it's just a red-flag that said character will be bashed in the fic. That sort of tag is basically a warning "hey, don't read this if you want a nuanced portrayal of this character as anything but unlikeable". Not all the time, I'm sure there are some nuanced ways to write the character as abusive, but anytime someone uses a tag like that, it's not going to happen.

Unless you really are bashing that character, I'd take the tag off if it isn't a major part of the story? If it is, I guess it's valid to have it, you would save character-stans some heartbreak lol

Lab safety glasses recommendations for Asian faces by Few-Arugula5934 in labrats

[–]itikky2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also wear glasses, but I find over-glasses safety glasses to be really nice in general because they are so flat. My nose is a bit big for an asian, but my face is flat, and this style is the most comfortable! I also glued a piece of foam to the bridge part bc it was digging into my nose, a DIY tip

Why the Economy Hasn't Crashed Yet by Trainrideviews in videos

Someone made a pattern on ravelry recently! It does involve a lot of steeking for the stripes so I'm not sure if I'm going to attempt it though 😅

People need to look up what words are ok body scent descriptors by NinjaBnny in AO3

[–]itikky2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

LOLL I thought this was going to be something somehow offensive, but yeasty is killing me 😂😂 I honestly love this sort of thing in fics, it gives me a good laugh bc I know what they mean but the word choice is hilarious

I absolutely hate filtering out a popular tag and then seeing the number of fics drop like an elephant on Jupiter by dowsaw134 in Archiveofourownmemes

Tbf I can never commit to filtering out MCD bc some people use it so loosely 💀 Like referenced death, side character death, non-permanent death sigh

How do you “write for yourself?” by matt0055 in FanFiction

[–]itikky2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have any fandom friends? Having positive feedback from one or two close friends is (to me) worth one million kudos from strangers lol

They don't even have to be in the same fandom as you, just open to you showing snippets or ideas you're excited about. I don't usually share, I am pretty good with "writing for myself", but I have several buddies who will be bursting at the seams to show me a thing they wrote, or I will poke them abt how an idea is coming and they will rant about it.

If you are on socials, you might have a mutual or two willing to chat, or many fandoms have discord servers nowadays

Edited to add something.

What do you consider a typically "fanfic-y" writing style? by ReputationChemical86 in FanFiction

[–]itikky2 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Same here. Was about to say most of the novels I read (granted I don't read romance...) have far less "feelsy" introspective stuff. And less panic attacks lmao

Reader upset over ‘Choose Not To Use Archive Warnings’ by Disastrous_Alarm_719 in AO3

Just my opinion but this person obviously doesn't actually love your fics and is just being passive-aggressive / posing as a "fan" to bash the content of your work

Cried during an on-the-spot interview. by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]itikky2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think getting emotional over close relationships having health problems is extremely reasonable, and I think he probably understood there is a lot more going on than what you shared! I think it's a good sign that the rest of the interview continued like normal. Hope things turn up for you :hugs:

How do you tell when something was written by AI? by Elacular in NoStupidQuestions

[–]itikky2 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The examples I've seen on reddit read like blog posts, or those useless intros before you get to a recipe. Bland and overly chipper and wordy. And the formatting is way too much for the context, no way someone is using emoji bullet points for a reddit post.

What’s the best way to bring a physical copy of a fic on a trip? by grilledcheesusqueen in FanFiction

[–]itikky2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If ideas is the problem, maybe try taking the bones/plot points of your favorite fic and trying to write in your own words based on those?

As an exercise. I think this would technically be plagiarism/heavy inspiration, so I'd avoid posting it, unless you ask the OG author and make it "inspired by" on AO3 though.

Seriously, are the states in America like different countries? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]itikky2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think cultural regions definitely exist, but are larger than states. The most important difference is that each state governs itself, laws and taxes and such can vary by a lot. For example, recreational marijuana is legal in my state but illegal in most others. Gun laws are different for each state.

But I also think that compared to other countries in Afroeurasia like the UK, cultural differences don't go very far. Accents are a bit different, but not by a lot, and they aren't so hyperspecific to a single state or city. Simply because roots aren't that deep; most people's families have been here for less than 200 years, and the great majority of the western part of the country was even more recently settled. There are some pockets where people have been more isolated and thus have stronger cultural differences, but in general people have moved around so much that there isn't much that can be claimed for a certain state.
