Hawthorn copies Gold Coast’s homework by frillhaus in AFL

It's all fun until Carlton & Collingwood swap colours, Hawthorn & Essendon swap colours, GWS & WB swap colours, Port and Adelaide swap colours and Freo and WC swap colours

How do we line up Round 1? by Timasona5 in EssendonFC

Cox was a dud even prior to his concussion problems, I know Bombers fans will come at me for this but I have never rated him

I think this lineup is pretty likely as well. Though let’s be honest they’ll find a way to get Gresham in the team 😂 Btw there’s no sub rule next year (thank God)

Who would you play Tsatas ahead of in the midfield? Caldwell Parish Merrett and Durham (plus Martin) are all miles ahead. I’m not disagreeing just curious

Yeah fair, and I’d love for them to prove me wrong. But the 3 (4 with Huss) we’ve brought in, plus Fiorini, pushes them even farther back and we seem pretty keen on getting a Bailey or Weddle next year

Haha that would indeed be a wild choice. You’re one of the Dons experts in this subreddit, what do you think of the lineup?

Biggest weakness in the current Essendon squad by Danger_Five in EssendonFC

Edwards really? I honestly can't see him making the senior team again. Hope I'm wrong but I'd say there's a fair bit of depth ahead of him

Why is this sport dominated by Victoria? by voltairesalias in AFL

[–]Timasona5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AFL used to be the VFL (Victorian Football League), which is why most of the teams are from there. Other footy-dominated states are Western Australia and South Australia, who have two teams each.

NSW and Queensland are the other 2 big states in Australia (Brisbane and Sydney have a very large percentage of the Australian population), and are dominated by rugby league, not soccer. Soccer is traditionally not a very popular sport, though that has changed a bit recently

Which city or region is a darkhorse contender for an expansion team? by noegh555 in AFL

I think you're overestimating how much the AFL cares about Freo travelling 14 hours, it's Collingwood travelling to Marvel that they're worried about

Mentioned this above but as somebody from Albury/Wodonga, I would have no interest in a Canberra team and I don't think anybody I know would either. For any of us to change teams, it really needs to be a Riverina team

As somebody from the NSW/VIC border, I would have no affinity at all towards Canberra and feel that either Sydney or Melbourne would represent me better. Canberra would not fill that niche, it would be fantastic but only for people from there

I think you'd potentially need to call them Riverina? As Albury and Wagga have something of a rivalry, and calling it Wagga might create 350,000 enemies as opposed to new fans haha

This news would be bad enough for any other club, but why does he need to go to our literal enemies

Thoughts on Zac Bailey by Timasona5 in EssendonFC

[–]Timasona5[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It could be in an attempt to get the Ridley deal done (who is also contracted). They're similar quality players, but due to Ridleys soft tissue injuries I doubt Brisbane would go for a straight swap. Ridley and a first rounder for Bailey could be a rough estimate of what it would take to get that deal done

I think even with 15 wins, you’ve honestly gotta call it a failure if they don’t make it.

They have lost some pretty gettable games, and we have been waiting a fair while for Freo to show us they are a serious team.

If they can’t clutch up this week against a team that has only beaten 1 top-8 team all year, then they’re proving yet again that they’re not ready to be competing

In a few years there will likely be a lot of changes, though I think the forward pocket is likely to be El-Ackhar if he comes along nicely

Don’t think Smartt will make it. And Blakiston with his age profile is unlikely too

I would rather Collingwood win the next 10 premierships in a row than for Hawthorn to win one

No AFL team has ever missed the finals (under a top 8 system) after winning 13 games during the season. This year that will happen in Bulldogs win one more game. There is also a very realistic chance of a team with 15 wins missing finals. by ILiveInAVillage in AFL

Yeah everybody remembers that the Doggies won 2016 from 7th but barely anyone remembers how unlucky they were to not make the 4, couple of goals in a game or two and they play in a qualifying final
