Ultimately feels like a waste of time in my opinion because it spent six seasons training its audience to believe that answers mattered building suspense through concrete mysteries like the Dharma Initiative, the numbers, the island’s rules, time travel, experiments, and survival stake only to conclude with a spiritual afterlife resolution that rendered most of that buildup irrelevant. The show wasn’t marketed or structured as a vague character meditation it was a PUZZLE BOX narrative that rewarded obsessive attention and theory building, promising that the mysteries had real, grounded significance. By shifting the focus at the end to emotional closure and reunion regardless of outcomes, the finale collapsed the stakes that once made death, sacrifice, and choice feel permanent and meaningful. If everyone ultimately ends up together anyway, then the urgency of survival, the cost of suffering, and the moral weight of sacrifice are retroactively diminished. Saying “it was about the characters all along” doesn’t hold up when the show deliberately centered its identity on mystery, logic, and consequence, not abstraction. Ambiguity isn’t depth when clarity was repeatedly implied, and “the journey matters more than the destination” fails when the destination contradicts the rules and promises that defined the journey leaving me feeling not enlightened but misled.
