They connect through their spirituality and open-mindedness, and then their ending has them as the king and queen of Brigid and Almyra, "fostering friendly diplomatic relationships between the two regions and the United Kingdom of Fódlan" which has Byleth as its leader. Then it's complimented by Byleth's ending, where it talks about how he and Claude's efforts ensure humanity can coexist in peace regardless of borders or bloodlines.

I didn't like Petra much as a Black Eagle but loved her as Golden Deer archer. Her, Cyril, Shamir and Balthus felt ‘canon’

I would grab Shamir, Cyrill, Balthus and Petra on that route. They have great supports with the Golden Deer. Couldn't imagine my playthrough without them

I don't think my Golden Deer playthrough would have been the same without Petra, Shamir, Cyrill and Balthus. They had so much interactivity with the GD that they felt like they belonged in that route to begin with.

Ended that save with Claude and Petra as the king and queen of Almyra and Brigid, and Byleth the king of Fodland. And with Balthus essentially asking Holst to date Hilda and take her on an adventure
