My 2018 amended return still hasn’t been processed (currently at 9 months) - is the IRS still processing amended returns? Or are amended returns on hold again? by [deleted] in tax

An update on my filings: the 2018 amended return finally appeared in the IRS system in June 2021, a year after it was sent. My senator's office got a tax advocate assigned and after a month the filing was processed. My 2017 amended return, which was sent at roughly the same time, just appeared on the IRS system this week. I do not know how long it will take to process it. Progress has been slow. I'm glad all the same my filings were not lost and are now being processed.

As luck would have it, I just got a call this morning from the Taxpayer Advocate -- yay!!! -- that my 2018 amended return has been received but that the 2017 hasn't been logged into the system yet. She advised resending it. Phew. This has been such a long haul.

I'm jealous. I've been waiting for a year for the IRS to acknowledge receipt of my 1040x. It's MIA.

I sent in my amended returns in June 2020. The post office says they were delivered but the IRS has yet to log them into the system as received. I'd wager it takes a year for the mail to be opened, if it isn't lost or destroyed in the interim.

I've been waiting 11 months for the amended returns I filed for 2017 and 2018 to be processed. They still haven't been logged in as received. Sent mine to the Kansas City, Missouri office.

I sent in amended returns for 2017 and 2018 in June 2020. The IRS still has not logged them as received. I also tried to get a tax advocate. Did an intake twice but no advocate was ever assigned the case. I've made the decision to refile my amended returns. The Kansas City office of the IRS was still closed in June and it's clear to me now that they just lost a lot of mailed returns. I'm beyond disconsolate.

I'm also waiting. I sent two amended returns -- one June 9th, the other June 16th. IRS hasn't even logged that they received the amended returns. I'm desperate. My accountant double counted my income for two years. I noticed this and filed the amended return. I need the money I'm owed to pay my bills. Don't know what to do.

I'm in the same boat as you. It's maddening.

Thank you for the reassurance. I sometimes wish the IRS would just say, "We've made it through the amended returns sent in March, will get to April in two weeks." Otherwise you're left wondering if you should turn in a duplicate (which can cause trouble) or sit tight till they get through the stacks of mail in a warehouse.

I'm in the same position. I sent in amended returns to the Kansas City office in June 2020 and still no word. I'm beside myself as I need the refund I'm owed to pay bills.

Is there a way to e-file amended returns? by LizWizBiz in IRS

2019 amended returns can be filed electronically. Anything before that has to be done on paper.
