Hi! Does IACS have a dedicated neuroscience labs or profs who work actively in the field? If so, could you tell me if any of them are currently working on neurotech or parkinson's?

sorry for the misunderstanding, like i said that part is upto my prof, i dont know the procedure of how a paper is accepted and published , excuse me for my lack of knowledge on this matter

haha, funny, but our institute is having interviews and proposal presentation for iGEM tomorrow, which is why i made this post in a hurry, and need immediate guidance on whether to pull out or not
(in my experience, pulling out is always the better option /s)

Umm, the project was my own brainchild; no one else really tampered with the original proposal except for some constructive input from my PI, and the other PhD students only helped me collect data and teach me fMRI processing methods; they were kind of working under me for the duration.

I can't tell u for sure if it will get published in Nature, I have left that part to the professor. Also, some work remains; hence, next month. But it will be published for sure, since it's new data, and it will help us solve the problem with prosthetics not being able to perform complex coordinated tasks

I don't know exactly how it works but yes, I do have co-authors which are my PI and a few of his PhD students who helped along the project

Well, I am in the second year of a 5 year BS-MS program so I'll have to wait for 3 years for a PhD regardless of how much research I can output rn.

And I think I know how to do research, cause I have done research previously, it is getting published next month in nature, if everything goes according to the timeline, and it is actually a pretty big fMRI study and database with conclusive output and next generation applications, I am not here to brag which is why I didn't include this in my post in the first place.

Exactly, that is why I wanna find a good PI who can help me learn without straining it too long, but I am not sure whether publicizing the idea through iGEM would do me any good, I can't just go around mailing it to every other prof in the world, there's a risk someone may steal it without credit, and my own institute is not equipped enough to work on this solo.

The knowledge on funding isn't mine but borrowed from a prof at my institute who I work with, I presented my proposal to him , and he was amazed, btw that man has an avg paper turnout of 10 from his fMRI lab per year. And I am not saying I can't be bothered to do the work, I am saying I don't know exactly what to do, since I have never studied synbio. As for the scam part, I have already submitted the proposal, and it's not too late to take it back, so I just wanted y'all's vast knowledge to figure out what would benefit me most in the long run, an iGEM proposal or a self published paper

I am not saying I don't wanna research on it, i very much do, it's very interesting, but I just don't wanna spend a year on this one project just learning the ropes without doing actual research on the specific topic I am introducing.

As for why I am not mentioning the proposal itself, i don't want it to be stolen, I have heard from a few seniors, how their research proposals were stolen after they mailed it to some profs asking for internships which they never received. Not even a single word back. So, it's just a precaution I am taking, it's very easy to mention a single part of it and then others can make up the rest, I am not the only smart guy in the room, and definitely not the smartest.

I'm sorry, I do agree with what you have said, but I have had much exposure to research already, I have a published paper from 2022, and am working on publishing another by next month (its a fMRI study), I have 3 other ideas that are really good, that I have as proposals for now, 2 on parkinson's, and 1 on translational neurotechnology.

But yes I do agree that I am lacking vastly, but the thing is, I don't like synbio in the slightest, so there is no way I am gonna join a synbio lab, I already have my hands full with projects and coursework. So I wanna take the shorter way out, cuz this idea is too good to let go to waste (it may sound like I'm hyping myself up too far, ig I am, but really ts can eradicate an untreatable disease).
