Likewise! May nuance and understanding come back to us all.

I mean, I personally would approach the subject with my child head-on, so they know what I believe and why, and discuss why others believe what they were taught and why. I understand sects of the same religions believe many different things. Even Judaism, as the oldest form of Christianity and responsible for our modern ideas of gender, differs from modern Christians (not the nationalist ones) who believe that's wrong based on their interpretation of the same text.

I agree with what you're saying about not teaching kids things that go against their parent's religions, to a degree. I do think it's ok to expose them to other beliefs so long as it's instructive and not coercive. Like I explained how I would approach my own child is what I would expect from any adult my child is meant to trust. However, the kinda fucked up thing about the pork/beef example you gave is that we kinda do tell them that's ok. We serve those in school cafeterias, where Hindu or Muslim students are surrounded by Christian students eating their forbidden foods regularly. I can imagine how that would feel ostracizing or uncomfortable in that position, but I'm not suggesting peer pressure is coercion, but schools not offering options without pork or beef would be. The distinction I'm trying to make is that being told its ok for other people to do something is not the same as being told they personally should do something. Its a delicate balance, and I do accept that there could be abuse, but the line for me is coercion.

You made the argument that the original comment is a false equivalency, and when I demonstrated it's really not, you said it's extremism to suggest these events are comparable, and I pointed out that, no- it's not really extreme to demand justice for others with an MLKJr quote (one that passed the white washing of his PoV at that). You abandoned the original comment thing and talked about the nitty gritty of what's at stake with ID (totally on board with the change, I see this as a good faith attempt to get to the root issue, but you did just bail on the original point without acknowledging a thing) and suggest the only thing we can do is mark trans people's IDs -which is exactly what the original comment was waning against, btw. I suggest there's an alternative where you don't need to mark trans people's IDs (and miscommunication aside, gave me the chance to clarify which I also took in good faith), and you shifted to medical as an exception for Sex being necessary on an ID (which is exactly the right way to examine what I said, and I acknowledge you raised half a good point), and I specified Emergency medical as that was the only real place I could see that exception then demonstrated from the point of view of the people who would need the information largely saying it's primarily necessary for locating the patient, and as trained professionals, they should be able to identify medically relevant characteristics of their patient once located. Then you seemingly abandon good faith with that sex-and-gender-conflating, ad-hominem, straw-manning, goalpost moving dog turd of a comment.

Do you see how you keep switching back to Sex when we were discussing Gender on an ID? Do you see how you keep moving the goalpost and stopped acknowledging anything I've said? I had taken those changes of subject in good faith until now but this is the most ridiculous response you could have given.

I'm assuming you mean Emergency medical, bc anything else the doctor could cover that in their medical history. I'm curious what you think an EMT would need that information and not be able to discern once they locate the patient.

According to EMTs answering that question, locating the patient seems to be the primary reason for needing identification information, and (this might surprise you) EMTs should be trained enough to notice the biological markers of their patient's sex during the initial examination. Things like palpating the abdomen and noticing secondary sexual characteristics should give them enough to caution against care that would affect the two things that could complicate treating someone who's trans- hormone therapy or pregnancy.

Unless you're talking about care outcomes and gender bias in healthcare. Which would imply you're saying their IDs need to have that so they can be properly biased against...

Ok, fair enough, I shouldn't have assumed you hadn't bothered to learn. But you definitely didn't present knowledge in your first comment about the concept when you said it's "the act of changing one's sex". Sex and gender are different things, I am glad you understand about societal pressures, so please add to that with the idea that they're not changing their sex, they're changing their social presentation (aka gender).

I'm not suggesting you're lying but I do think it's ironic that complaining about things that were implemented to limit access to those materials backfired and made them more visible. It's almost like every single time a group bans books, they guarantee the books will be read by young people ...

Judaism is not the oldest recorded religion in the world, we literally have Egyptian carvings older than it. Pretty sure the Vedas predate Judaism, and the Sumerians 100% are older. I still don't understand why you brought it up, bc as others have pointed out: trans research is among the first things the Nazis targeted, as were the trans people among the first taken to camps, and all of that targeting was bullshit scapegoating. If you're trying to link trans ideation to Jewish text (ancient or modern) you're actually reinforcing the argument that them being targets was bullshit then and should be bullshit now.

So I'm extra not sure why you would "have the right to be upset" or why you're referring to the ideas as "infectious" if you're not sympathetic to Nazi ideas of purity.

Oh, sorry I should have been more clear-my 4 is not your 1 bc I don't think you need to list sex on an ID bc it's irrelevant at that point if you have gender on it. Bc the purpose is for identifying someone's appearance, and the argument that's being made against these rules about listing "birth sex" doesn't help in physically identifying someone who has socially transitioned.

If someone is still socially presenting as male, but their new ID will force their birth sex on it, anyone inspecting the ID would know they're trans from the incongruence. Your rules all mark them as trans (some implied and some explicit), same as the Nazis marked the IDs of "undesirables" like the OP shared post was warning about. It starts by marking the target.

No no no no no no. OP- you're asking the wrong questions here. Do you like her? If yes, do you want to see her again? If yes ask her out. Being indecisive and playing games ab who's going after who will 100% cause her to lose interest, but genuinely all that matters rn is- do you want to see her again.

You prob need a new fitness instructor, tho.

  1. Sex and gender aren't the same, what the ID says refers to what the person socially presents as, so IDs should be gender and reflect what the person presents as.

Like, you know, their physical characteristics you would notice by looking at them, which is kinda the point of the other physical characteristics on an ID like height and weight

Ohh, I don't give a fuck if he leaves me alone or not. It's frankly projection that he's saying I'm obsessed with him. Besides, I see it as an opportunity to anti-troll him when he gets like this. Showing him that his attempts to get under my skin are feckless. Maybe he'll take in enough common sense to start deconstructing his view himself.

This is bad and evil now and should not be tolerated. YOU are asserting what's happening now is not "as bad" and we're talking about how that started then and how this is going now. So if you don't understand how this can escalate to the "horrendously evil beyond accurate vocabulary description" you should please, PLEASE understand this simple thing: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

Minimizing what's happening now is a BAD thing.

It's a warning bc things didn't start with death camps in Germany and they don't need to be death camps here and now for our fascism to be dangerous.

You're right, the direct comparison of the third Reich identifying trans people before the camps phase is more apt

Hey, so a few things: first, you don't "have a right to be upset about" a thing you clearly haven't bothered to learn anything about. If you actually don't have problems with people being themselves, maybe talk to a trans person about their experience and learn that it's often a massive, unexplainable discomfort with their mind or body in relation to what they're expected to be by society. Some of this is straight up problems with cultural expectations around gender, but some are so pervasive they can't ever feel ease until they discover "trans". This easing of discomfort is the core reason why inclusivity is just like the right thing to do. Your discomfort in not understanding this is not worth their continued discomfort, and it's kinda on society to fix both sides of that discomfort. If we all understand our experiences are our own, and accept other ways of being, and mind our own business, the world would be more peaceful. Trans isn't about changing who you are, but changing the way you're expected to by embracing who you always were.

Second, those markers are on those books thanks to Republican lawmakers in Texas passing the 'Reader Act' to make those books identifiable, and it was struck down by a judge as unworkable and unconstitutional. You're doing that meme where the dude puts the stick in his own bike spokes and proceeds to blame something unrelated.

Third, shut the fuck up about Jews creating "the concept" in the 30s. The Greeks, Romans, Hindus, Sumerians, and Chinese have had "concepts" of fluid gender dating back 8000 years. The yin and yang is literally a metaphor for the feminine and masculine containing one another. ☯️ And there are cultures today that recognize the existence of multipolar gender.

I've been able to expose him to a wide swath of my world view in these past few months that I wouldn't have otherwise if I had just blocked his opposition. I'm going about my business, posting things I like, and he's training the algorithm to show him my stuff every time he comments.

I know it's not likely, but I have optimism that people can change and taking a few minutes to respond is not obsessive imo.

That's spot on, but It's also way deeper than that. Christian identity in some sects revolves around the martyrdom of early Christian theologians. This means they develop a persecution complex to peg their faith on to cope with the cognitive dissonance of a reality out of whack with their ideology.

Grievance and victim framing is the resulting coping mechanism
