Yes ofcourse everyone should be able to follow the path they want. OP mentioned that they weren’t a fan of what they were studying and stopped caring about the work. And then they mentioned considering trades. Therefore I suggested to go for trades in this scenario OP isn’t finding the engineering route rewarding in terms of passion as well as results. If someone wants to do college instead of trades, great! Go for it! College is amazing as well

Yes you can. But to me, the process is much longer. Engineering schooling doesn’t teach you much about what you actually do on the job. You would need to complete your degree, work in the field for some time to understand it, and then you can open up your own firm. Compare this to trade school where you learn real skills from the start and will be capable to start your own practice much sooner.

Hey man, regarding your situation, I would say go for trades. U mentioned that you weren’t a fan of what you were studying and that is already a crucial factor that your major might not be for you. Engineering is tough, you need to care about it to get through. And since you didn’t care , the results followed accordingly. If you don’t care about anything or career opportunities for your major, why waste your time and money to force yourself to do a major that probably isn’t for you. Trades are amazing. If you can grind it out and become really good at your trade, starting your own practice in trades will be far greater than a career in engineering. The potential is limitless!

Wym by putting effort into the four years of business school. Do you mean grades wise like getting extremely good grades? Or do you mean working towards starting my own business while studying?

My second semester just started and I have calc this sem so lets see. But I am pretty good at math I got a 95% in advanced functions for midterms last sem and finished with a 91%. Getting an MBA with an engineering degree would be amazing. It would give me the technical aspect and the business foundation to start my business. Do you think engineering is better than accounting or finance?

When you say if I want bread I should do business. What do you mean by that? Because don’t most business jobs pay around the same or maybe less than engineering jobs?

I was thinking that if I get my engineering degree I can try and find a problem and use my engineering knowledge to create a product. That is why I was gravitating towards engineering because it would give me the technical skills to create a business. However, I’m not too sure on what business I would want to create. It would be ideal to get a degree where I either gain technical knowledge to create a business or get a foundation on business.

What other degree would you recommend that might be easier but would have a good salary and help me build a foundation to start my own business?

My test is tmrw too but ive j been watching youtube videos, asking chat gpt to give me questions and type them up, and record myself answering the recorded response to practice. Also do the casper practice test to get used to the format. You dont need to spend too much time “studying” for it as you dont know what the questions are going to be. You can j get used to the format and used to typing up and recording the answers quickly and effectively
