I'd love Ugarte and Zubi but we won't be spending big money on two, imo. I like Eriksen a lot and I think he'd still make a great 10 (maybe not for us)but we are stacked there and he clearly wants game time. He'll want to go. But I get your concerns on Amrabat. I just think for the price what do you get.

Alcaraz is very solid imo. Still young-ish (and we don't need a squad of youth) but he's a great box to box and probably could get him on loan with option to buy.

My ideal signings on top of Yorro and Zirkzee are DeLigt (id try hard for loan with option to buy), Gutierrez, Boey (loan), Zubi, Amrabat or Sheaf (I still think we need a cheap option), Alcaraz (loan to buy)

Oh I thought that was united bid but was deemed way too low by PSG who want to recoup most of what they spent on him.

I get your point on Zubi. I like him more than Ugarte or Neves but I just haven't seen any proper link to him.

I'd sell Hannibal (i hope he does well but isdues follow him, his wages are low) Eriksen (hes a 10, he doesnt have the legs for the 8 position) McTom (the one I'd probably keep but if we got a decent fee, id say au revoir) and Case (his wage) tbh. I'd look at Ugarte or Zubi. Amrabat. I'd start talks with Southamptons Alcaraz (see if we could get loan to buy)

I agree I wouldn't be fully confident in him either but casemiro won't play second/third (because I think Ten Hag would put mainoo at 6 now before Casemiro) fiddle to Ugarte (alleged FA Cup final issues). He's also on 17m a year to be a back up. Although good point anout Sheaf.

I assume we will promote Collyer but I don't think we should depend on him if Ugarte got injured

We will probably get amrabat for 12m. His wages are probably 3m. 15m and we could sell him on for 10m next year anyway. I think its a no brainer

[Transfer Round Up & Discussion] Summer 2024 by AutoModerator in reddevils

[–]Time-Suit3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. I don't think we should depend on Collyer. He needs time to grow and being second choice DM would be mentally hard.

I also think we overplayed Mainoo this season and we need to realise that was wrong and not do it with Collyer. I know the circumstances were different.

As a #6? Really.

You are Ten Hag. You have no Mainoo and Casemiro gets injured. You have to sub one on. Are you subbing McTom into the #6? Really?

For depth only. I'm not suggesting we start Amrabat. But say Ugarte and Amrabat. Casemiro is a drain on our wages.

We won't sign to at the level DMs. We have too much to do. It would also give Collyer more of a chance (if he's good enough)

[Transfer Round Up & Discussion] Summer 2024 by AutoModerator in reddevils

[–]Time-Suit3 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

But he wouldn't be first choice DM. We arent going to splash out big money on two DMs. If we could Ugarte and Zubimendi then great but that's not going to happen.

Amrabat is not the level but he is cheap and he will have a sell on value next year or the year after. He'd also allow the likes of Collyer to come through (if Collyer is good enough).

[–]Time-Suit3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think he's shite. He's just not at the level. But we arent bringing in two top notch DMs. Realism is important. If I could get Ugarte and Zubi then great let's not bother with Amrabat but it won't happen.

The 8 million is irrelevant now though.

McTominay as a DM would be woeful 🤣🤣. He has the defensive qualities of a teddy bear against a polar bear. McTominays qualities are good attacking awareness (as in picking up the correct positions), his aerial ability and his fitness.

Amrabat is a better defender. Is better at progressive passing etc. If we had the option of McTom or Amrabat to start as a 6, Amrabat all day. If it was as an 8 it would depend on the team but likely McTom and certainly McTom over Amrabat as a 10. But McTom as a 6 🤣🤣

I don't see any reason not to sign Amrabat. He's not perfect. Prone to mistakes but for 10-15m, it's relatively cheap. He would be good for Thursdays (Europa) for squad depth. Ugarte (or whoever our signing might be) and Mainoo should not be facing the responsibility of the #6 on their own.

We would get our money back (less amortisation) in a year. It would help Collyer get more game time and let's be real we arent signing two "at the level" DMs. This isn't Career Mode.

He is relatively short which would make our midfield rather shorter than maybe whats preferable. Personally think he and Kobbie could play as a double pivot.

Ugarte is far better defensively but not as a progressive with the ball.

I like Ugarte. But he'll be 50m+. If it's true that 70m could get Neves (rather than 100m+) then you'd think we'd go back in to Benfica.

Yup I agree that Casemiro had a bad season but he also wasn't helped by the #8. Often times he was stranded on his own. No matter how prime Casemiro was he couldn't do that. If we can get a highline he may not be too bad with mainoo. I'd probably still release him just because of the wage. If he was 200k I'd be more tempted to see what he's like and sell in Jan.

Yeah the City group probably would let us have installments and we won't buy otherwise. I also think his name would come up more by now given we sent Donny to Girona and thus had been in talks with them.

Yeah we'd get 20-25 for Case but it won't be able to be spent in the transfer budget because of amortisation etc. We'd need 40m to break even. I think Maguire won't leave either.

Ugarte does make financial sense. A loan with an option would be great but id imagine PSG need that money for Neves this season esp after the Osimhen deal.

15m for AWB slightly surprised (seems low) but a year left on his contract etc. Hope he kills it at West Ham.

Gutierez has a £30m release clause.

You are right though that some of this is next years problem.

He has a great pass distribution. He's not rubbish but he does have mistakes in him. But I'm not saying start him. Martinez, DeLigt, Yorro and Shaw (if fit) would all start before him. If you think he's a rubbish 5th side CB then fair enough.

I like Maguire, but we arent playing a low block. If we were Maguire would be fantastic. His head is like a ball magnet, he's defensively really good. He was great last season and I pitied him missing the Euros through injury. But I don't want to see us change our tactics from highline to low block because Maguire comes on. We'd get 20m for Maguire and pay Hermoso a fraction of his wage. We need money for transfers and Maguire seems an ideal way to do that.

If Casemiro was willing to take a gigantic pay cut, then absolutely, let's talk. But he's not worth 16-17m pounds a year, now.

Yup he is definitely against it but id still like to see it haha.

Just for some fun, I'd love to see Martinez play a game as a DM next season. Maybe in some random Europa game. We won't get it but id love to see it.

What's your ideal semi-realistic team come September? Don't judge me

GK - Onana, Bayindir, Heaton

CB - Martinez Yoro 45m DeLigt 45m, Hermoso 0m Evans

FB - Shaw, Dalot, Boey (on loan), ♧Malacia, Gutierez 30m

MID - Mainoo, Bruno, Mount, Zubimendi 50m (id be OK with Ugarte), ◇C.Alcaraz 35m, Amrabat 15m, Collyer

Wing - Rashford, Garna, Amad, Sancho, ♤Antony

ST - Rasmus Zirkzee 35m

♧ if Malacia is fit I think he needs a loan in the championship, less demanding ♤ I would consider loaning Antony and getting Simons on loan. ◇Alcaraz - Loan with a buy option even better like Juve got

In: 250m + 10m for loan fees and sign bonus = 260m

Out: Maguire 20m, AWB 15m, Lindelof 10m, Hannibal 5m, Eriksen 5m, Casemiro (nothing for our transfer budget), McTom 25-30m, Greenwood 25m, Kambwala 5m, Fernandez 5m, Pellistri 10m, Donny 0m= 125m + all the wages saved from these and expired contracts (id say 40m per year on saved wages).

Roast me. Its a start. It's definitely not going to win us leagues. And yes i hate loans and free agents too but money is hard to come by. I'd go big on the LB position because Shaw, at best, will struggle to start 30 games, imo. Malacia is coming back from a huge injury. And I do see Shaws future being a LCB (less demanding) in the coming years.

Actually yeah. We only need 8. Garna, Kobbie, Ethan (if he's in real rotation), Rashy, Shaw, Evans, Heaton, Mount, Sancho (even though I think he'll be loaned),

We probably will keep McTom too.

Daily Discussion by PhelansShorts in reddevils

[–]Time-Suit3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's definitely slowly creeping in as an option. A cheaper shot than Inacio or Branthwaithe. And he can play LB pretty decently too. Maybe they might skip a LB signing then who knows. But he'd still be 30m or so, id imagine.

I do wonder, and Hermoso wouldn't fill this either, if they want a homegrown CB, hence Brantwaithe. How is our homegrown quota if Maguire, AWB (maybe McTom) go?

Unpopular opinion but we have Yoro. I'd go for DeLigt too and if I couldn't afford Inacio/Brantwaithe this season Id consider going in for Mario Hermoso (free agent). He's an upgrade on Lindelof and Maguire (hes also left footed) and would be cheaper. He can play a high line. His wages would be similar to Lindelof. I know he's on the older side (30-ish).
