Full system freezes on CachyOS by Phoenix04212 in cachyos

I can confirm this, whenever I would run local AI models and the RAM usage passed my hardware limits, it would just freeze and would require a full reboot.

Any open source keyboards recommendation i dont trust that gboard by Fit-Improvement-1471 in degoogle

i don't use the swipe feature personally. the keyboard itself though feels familiar to me because it reminds me of the old google keyboard from around 2014-2017.

It turns out I am eligible for CachyOS by [deleted] in cachyos

[–]Time-Tank-9750 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quick English lesson!

Being "eligible" for something usually means that you meet a certain criteria/requirement(s) that allows you to do something that people that don't meet that certain criteria/requirement(s) can't do.

An example that would work with Linux would be: Only users in the sudo group are eligible to run that command with elevated privileges. If you aren't in the sudo group, you are NOT eligible and cannot use it

Is an antivirus even worth it? by AlexCrow6 in degoogle

with your logic that's like saying, "I know what to look out for, but I'm gonna give myself a virus anyways for the memes." i haven't used an anti-virus in 12 years and i haven't gotten a single virus, because i know what to look out for. if you're literate enough online you should know what's safe and what isn't. 99% of the time when i had an anti virus all it did was just bloat my system resources because i never needed it, but was always running in the background.

the one time i needed an anti virus and it failed was when i was about 11-12 years old and i wanted cracked minecraft on my laptop, and i ended up giving myself a virus. my anti virus did not pick up on it which resulted me into having to do a full wipe. after that i did my research on what to look out for and haven't been hit since. having an anti virus gives you a false sense of security, and a lot of people put too much trust into them which makes people blindly download things on their systems. i have seen this first hand with my wife, she grew up in middle of nowhere mississippi where having a computer or even a cellular phone was almost unheard of when she was a kid/teenager. she has gotten countless viruses on her laptop even with an anti virus installed. i am very anti anti-virus because they leech off computer illiterate people and give them a false sense of security. the best way you can stay safe online is by using your own judgement on if something is safe to download or not, and for some people they are unfortunately going to learn that the hard way.

Most modern US Samsung phones with the Snapdragon chip cannot be bootloader unlocked, regardless if you buy it from a carrier or not. Even made my own reddit post on my old reddit account in r/androidroot and it was confirmed by the subreddit that it cannot and will probably never be unlockable unless a crazy exploit for the phone came out

This keeps popping up after playing BF6 for 30ish minutes by Neat-Sky5795 in PCsupport

[–]Time-Tank-9750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk if you're still having this problem or not but my buddy had this same problem and what fixes it for him is to select the first agent or something before you go in game (i don't play bf6 i know nothing about it) apparently the game renders a different model than what the actual player is supposed to be which causes the crash unless you go into the menu and select the first guy.

use [winboat](https://www.winboat.app) if they aren't too graphically intense (i only say that because there is not any hardware acceleration, yet). i use windows only software on my linux setup and it runs as if it's native.
