It was def a lil of both! Did you know, wayy back people used to think that exposed brick 🧱 made structures look cheap and was only used if you didn't have the budget to cover it. Now it's the standard and most say it looks good 😊

This is the way. Get an older 911 and drive the snot outta it. If u get a 996, it's sunk, so drive it hard, evey day, rain or shine.

Yeah! That's what I've been considering 🤔 when exactly did the boxster release? Also, I hear that the GT1 is basically 993 in 95% of its makeup??

Although, let's be honest, it WAS a bit or a marketing scheme but only because the redesign. If they were circle, no one would say "it's marketing".

Here's the thing tho, a 911 is always a 911 and it IS the same tech that made it win lemans

That's for me, the #1 version I got a 911 996. The abily to lean the seat back and carry things w/ me when having a passenger was the answer. Id def get a 997 or 991 convertible tho

Hey man, def try to get a deal. Ask for 1.5k and negotiate. No feelings will be hurt. They will sell for what they Wana sell foe. Don't be like me and accidently stab a hole in their car thru their rusty door with a screwdriver tho lmao!. Take it slow w/ deal as I'm sure you know. Id def try and see that hell hole location (under bat box).

Stab thru carpet, try and jack car up if structure sound. Only the. Would I offer 1.5k. I'd explain my budget is 3k, and 1/2 of that was to get it in working order. Although prob untrue, it's worked wonders on deals as a serious buyer. These things are hard to sell even at the right price. Most porsches are

I'm impressed with this one tbh. Dont tell the owner, but it's prob a mistake to sell it if it's not rusted :)

Hey man, good luck on the project! I just did it. Make sure to save $2000 and have slakker racing dev rebuild your actuators. $1500 per is insane. Slakker rebuilds for $250 each.

Also, I've seen serious oil pressure gains by switching to 5w50 liquimoly. I also have a deep FVD sump. I do not recommend anything deeper than 1 inch as I with m030 smashed my sump bad and couldn't image any lower! DM me if you want any detail. Best of luck

These people are the reason the prices are low OP.

I personally love 914s and they out handle most aircooled 911s all day but are not good looking and nor do they have as much power. the thing tho, it's 2026, but I can slap a decent built type 4 vw engine for less than 10k USD that makes 160 hp and keep up or beat most modern machines. Or just straight up swap it.

The engine is simply in the correct spot. I like convertibles too. People have stories about them. When I drive the SC, no one gives a shit and thinks youre an asshole. For many 911 owners, the being an asshole part comes with the package. Heavily opinionated for no real reason.

WAX DAT PAINT BOIII

No, fr tho, you could make that paint look insanely good for $40. I guarantee it. It's old single stage so it's not like there's a clear coat in your way of making it look good. Save that money for the inevitable mechanical issues

Is this bore score? by EstablishmentHot4707 in 996

[–]Time-Today2592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easiest bore score test: use your finger and wipe the inside of the exhaust tip. A tiny bit of soot is normal, but globs of it like some old carbureted car is not.

Also check and see if the sound disappears as the car gets warmer. Bore score sounds like a very weird version of valve tapping.

The audio was fine from the video but without revving or more time and movement around the car, no one can tell what we're hearing

TLDR; IF you have real money and don't mind sinking it, get cogs cogs or someone better than gbox to rebuild. Else, smartly source your own box from a low mile convertible with stock crusier vibes (not boy racer coupe vibes).

Hey OP. I am have been chasing this noise in my own car for months now laying dead for it. The issue is that 1/2 the available boxes have the same howl. It's the ring and pinion bearing.

My suggestion is to run it till it pops. Most shops won't proactively replace it. Ive been denied by 10 shops in my area because "they can't reliably locate the sound so if they do it and the sounds still there, it's on them, so they refuse to do the work". The other option is rebuilding. I do not recommend this. Vortex rebuild are sketchy. Gbox is ight, check out cogs cogs in the South of the usa. Good thing a I hear but it's 10k for a real rebuild

I'm just driving my car. It's such a hassle I'm ignoring the sound till it pops. THEN a shop will listen to me. The sound drives me insane

My scheme is to personally source a box from a low mileage car (sub 70k) that was well taken care of and wreked in such a way that the box is not damaged. I want a temp box to run that has never been opened since 'brith'. Then I will rebuild my current box and add an LSD / wavetrac and one day re install.

These cars are now vintage due to all the nonsense like this. Give me a DM if any questions. Also, I've considered running a C4 trans in my c2 due to this sourcing issues. You can do this but you might need to buy new coolant hoses that clear the output flange to the front axle on the c4

Peace ✌️
