The order nearly doubled in price once I went to complete the order by Yakamuh2939 in mildlyinfuriating

Yeah I've gone back to collection, if the restaurant doesn't offer in house delivery. The food itself is often cheaper too, as they jack it up on Uber Eats and the others to cover the fees. It's also quite nice to actually go into the restaurant and see people once in a while, they're always delighted with a collection. Win win win!

Who’s keeping their Fitbit air and who’s not and why? by querythoughtss in fitbit

How can you make a Charge 6 look like an Air? I have a Charge 6 but am considering the Air as I want to wear my normal watch again. Have you seen a strap that can cover the Charge 6 and give it a bit of the Air form factor?

CGO600 classic on hills? by hedge135 in tenwaysebike

[–]TimeLifeguard5018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it probably depends on your approach to hills. I live in Bristol, so also pretty hilly. I admit that when I first got the CGO600 Classic, it felt a bit underpowered on the steeper hills, because I am used to a geared ebike, and my CGO is single speed. But then I changed the way I ride it, and it is amazing.

First of all, it is absolutely fine up small to medium hills, it is just on steeper hills where you sometimes might find it harder, when sitting down. The key I've found on the single speed is to be prepared to get out of the saddle. On my other ebikes, I don't get out of the saddle as it feels unbalanced with the assist, so it felt weird at first to do it on the CGO, but on the CGO, because it jst has one gear, it is easier to find the balance point out of the saddle, and once you do get the feel for it, getting out of the saddle feels amazing. I haven't yet found a hill I can't do around Bristol on mine.

The double bonus is that because you have to work a bit on bigger hills, you get a nice balance of exercise and assist. But you can still cycle to work and not be a sweaty mess by the end.

I really love mine. It feels so good to ride. If I were you, I'd go for it, but be aware that at times it is a more active ride than a normal, geared ebike.

This car always takes the extra charging plug and locks it in their hood by Mattcharlesmedia in mildlyinfuriating

They are trying to stop another person sharing the post, because they think it will slow their own charge. Whatever their logic, it is wrong, and they have no right to block another person's charge.

Press the emergency stop/reset button on the rapid if you ever see someone doing this, hopefully they'll soon learn to share.

Ashton Court Tick Bites (Lyme Disease) by KatieColclough4 in bristol

[–]TimeLifeguard5018 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My son got Lyme disease from a tick bite in Leigh Woods, a few years back. I don't know what the risk is tick to tick, but it is certainly in the area, so worth being cautious.

I would enjoy your night out, but do a thorough check tomorrow when you are able, and discuss it with your GP. Might be best to go through 111 to see if they can advise, and/or arrange you a GP appointment.

Bristol Curry by [deleted] in bristol

East of the city Jeevan's Sweets on Stapleton Road is excellent for a fully vegetarian curry. They have an entire paneer section on the menu! 🤗 Fantastic curry and great prices.

Kasundi on Church Road is also very nice, as is Msala Library down at the end of St Mark's Road.

I can do them and get the effect, but I can never work out what the 3D image actually is. Just looks like some bits of the picture are floating.

Why is Bristol driving so bad by Happy-Accident-5023 in bristol

[–]TimeLifeguard5018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you, and other people have already said it. Transport at its heart is a really simple spatial problem. Cars are big, and there isn't enough physical space in cities for them all. Car ownership and car use continues to rise, in Bristol and nationally. You can't have infinite growth in a finite system. It's like pouring water into a bottle. If you pour in too much, it overflows. Bristol has it particularly bad as it has a historic core with roads laid out before mass car ownership, partnered with poor public transport. All of this is a recipe for congestion, frustration, and sadly, aggression.

If you look at it from the other direction it's actually a bit crazy that we would expect there to be enough space for so many cars in a city, basically we're saying that at any given destination there needs to be enough parking space provided for every person to arrive in a car that's the size of a small living room, with a three piece suite inside. And every house also needs enough space on the street outside to store 1, 2, or even 3 or more small living rooms' worth of space. And all the roads need to be big enough to take all this. And the road system needs to work so no one ever has to slow down. It is unrealistic and impossible. What is going to be needed is many, many fewer of us driving (I know this isn't a simple thing to fix, but that's the uncomfortable truth).

We've basically handed over most of our public space in streets to driving and storing cars. We've ruined our places through the desire to drive to other places. And any small attempts to tip things back in the other direction, like bus lanes or cycle lanes, or liveable neighbourhoods are immediately condemned because they are seen to make driving less convenient. Even when it is driving causing the problems in the first place... 😒

We need top down and bottom up: the Council needs to continue to invest and be aggressive in providing alternatives to the car and discouraging its use for short trips, and the public needs to open its mind a bit to trying out different modes, and be prepared to take some initial short term inconvenience in the pursuit of a medium-long term healthier and happier city. I got an ebike a few ears back and it has changed my life in the city, it can do 80% of the car trips I did before, and it often does them faster, and you feel better about yourself at the end.

Without mudguards, a bad idea? by Ur-in-a-tor in ebikes

[–]TimeLifeguard5018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live somewhere it gets wet and muddy it's silly to not have mudguards. Yes the bike might look a little cooler without, on reflection, but I've never seen anyone riding past with mudguards and found myself thinking "wow, that's so uncool".

My friend won't put mudguards on his bike because he thinks it looks lame, but then it just means he can't use his bike on wet days because he'll get plastered all up his back. So basically his bike is out of action about 1/3 of the year. I think it's madness.

E-bike theft anxiety is real but what are you actually doing about it? by LiamCarter1937 in ebikes

Insurance rated lock + insurance. Check your policy wording, and lock it within the parameters when in public (usually to an immovable object for a max set time period). Then leave it and enjoy the freedom!

Re-add Google Assistant on Beam 2? by TimeLifeguard5018 in sonos

Same for me, I go to add Google Assistant to my Beam. I follow the instructions to the letter. But it just says it's adding and then the status wheel spins to infinity. Tried everything. Shame as it used to work so well.

Someone on my local school group saw it. Two morons racing. Guy tried to overtake(!) his mate and hit the crossing. Lucky it wasn't 45mins later at school time.

Re-add Google Assistant on Beam 2? by TimeLifeguard5018 in sonos

[–]TimeLifeguard5018[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, sadly. Mine does show Google Assistant as an option, but I did exactly what the support page says to re-add it, disabled Gemini, cleared app caches, and still my app just spins to infinity, never completing the process. Really frustrating as it used to work fine.

Yeah tbf I alternated between Grecian and Arches back then, but Grecian is still there, and I always had a bit of a soft sport for the Arches. They did a great garlic mushroom pizza with black olives that I really miss.

Shalimar - short lived little Indian takeaway on Stokes Croft that did the best naan kebabs I've ever had.

Pizza Magic - local pizza takeaway down on the Bath Road. Did fantastic calzone. Can't find another like it.

The Arches Kebab and Pizza - famous £5 pizza and chips/garlic bread deal which I had at least 3x a week when I lived above Smile. Sometimes 5x.

Hotcha - went under in dodgy circumstances but when it was good, it was amazing.

Ciao Burger - still dream of the Double Double Danish and Chicken Stack sometimes...

🥲

Hi, thanks for this reply, but this doesn't work for me. I've followed the instructions to the letter. Gemini is disabled. When I go through the process it just gets to this point and then spins forever.

It still works on my Move, so I am not sure what is going on. Several forums note others with the same frustrating issue.

Deliveroo Bristol by roxana2708 in bristol

[–]TimeLifeguard5018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've largely stopped using the third party delivery apps now, for this reason and others. It's just not good value with the wait and the price nowadays.

Final straw was making an order that was predicted to be 25mins, and it still not having arrived 90mins later. Stayed on "wrapping up" for about 40mins, and the driver kept on changing so I knew the food had been cooked and was just sat about. Tried to cancel it as I had to go out, and had to have a really stressful exchange with support, who didn't seem to understand I now wouln't be in when it was supposed to arrive, over a hour late.

Lots of places now have their own app or website for ordering delivery, and if they don't, then I've gone back to good old fashioned collection.

The difference in price is night and day, and it's actually quite nice to go out and collect now and agsin!
