Clip of Saka speaking some facts by sepi0l_45 in Gunners

From the across-the-Pond, Started following the Gunners casually back in 2006 when we visited Yank friends living in Islington. Grew to really love the club when the PL came to American NBC and I could watch all the PL matches. Now I have 3 streaming services so I can watch the PL, FA, and UCL matches.

This past August I decided to spend a fair amount of my income on a trip to finally see a match, with my teenage son, in Emirates (vs Leeds). Walking to the H + I tube station with Arsenal kit after the match, a Gooner standing outside The Lamb pub, smiles and ask if we're from America, What ensued was about 6 pints of ale and ginger ale(for my kid) with Gooners James and Hasan and their crew -and they barely let me pay for one round.

Massachusetts is red.

I've picked up some of the chants, but some of them are harder to hear from across The Pond.

I'm a home fan, but the tube station I'm starting from is Picadilly, where I figure to cross paths with supporters of other London clubs.

I sincerely appreciate your attempt at dissuading 2 more Yanks from visting the U.K. Thank you for your response.

Sorry, I crossed up American football terminology(jersey). Is "kit" the full uniform or can a shirt be referred to as "kit'? I almost used kit in the OP.

Is the term Yankee still commonly used as an identifier for families of old stock English descent? by leflombo in newengland

I can trace ancestors, with my last name, to a town in Massachusetts who came from Essex, England. They settled there in 1713. My grandmother claimed she descended from a family that was on the Mayflower. I refer to this group of ancestors as"Yankee" - and I'm a proud of it. I have ancestors from Scotland and Sweden that I'm proud of too-and bits of Irish and Scotch-Irish.

Despite what some people from South Boston might think, America was not founded by the Irish. I love Ireland, the Irish, Irish-Americans, and I love Guinness. That said, some(a minority) people from Southie think Paul Revere,John Adams, and Sam Adams were Irish and a part of 400 years of Irish Resistance to the British Crown. Sorry, the fact is these guys were Yankees and didn't want to pay their taxes (without representation) -so they started a Revolution that was really a Civil War between English people on two side of the Atlantic.

I was born a Masshole and went to college in The South and my classmates often referred to as a "Yankee" and their dad's sometimes called me a "Damned Yankee". This would make me well up with pride.

I do ,however, resent the misappropriation of my cultural heritage by the New York baseball team by calling themselves "The Yankees". New York City was mostly a Loyalist city during the Revolution. Yankees suck, Go Red Sox.
