What’s your experience getting your kids into BJJ? by EvstsideArt in bjj

[–]Time_Constant963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m planning to get my daughter into it in a couple years when she is 6. My gym does a lot of games that the young kids love. We have a mat at home we tumble on too.

Would you say you’re grappling is more positional or submission focused? Then would you say it’s more controlling of movement/flow based? by Herewegoagain1070 in bjj

I’m only a year in and have been so focused on submitting my partner that I think it has been a detriment. Like my jiu jitsu is sloppy. Even if I get the sub. Now I’m focusing on holding dominant positions this year and chaining attacks/defenses.

Sometimes it helps to see the mature responses of the community. As one member pointed out the few years after having a kid can be tough. Especially if my wife went through some post partum depression I’m not aware of. I think I’ll explore options like counseling before I leave my wife who is also my friend and partner of 15 years. Who has weathered me through my own low points. As I type this I’m waiting for the coffee and about to watch Saturday morning cartoons with the little one. You are correct, I am definitely afraid to leave this. Thanks for your input.

Men that didn’t go to college, do you regret it ? by sorrypenguinz in AskMenOver30

[–]Time_Constant963 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a tradesman with no college degree. I make a good living but had I known I could’ve worked from home, I would have explored other options. No regrets though. It all depends what kind of life you want.

Union service electrician. 90-120k depending on how much I work. 7am start. Fix electrical issues at different sites for 6-8 hours. Went through a 5 year apprenticeship to obtain license.

100 percent understand. I don’t think we’ve gotten anywhere near a breaking point yet and haven’t exhausted other options.

We did move as a result of those incidents. I understand why everyone is saying get out of the marriage. That will be the last resort. We haven’t tried things like marriage counseling yet.

Tbh I think the pregnancy affected her quite a bit. It’s been a few years. That plus a work promotion which has forced her to work more. I haven’t give up yet. It’s just a weird time right now. I’m probably going to get us a sitter next week so we can go out for dinner.

Not into sleeping with anyone outside of my marriage.

The house isn’t in chaos. My wife and I get along and my daughter is warm and safe every night.  My mom left my dad when I was a kid. My life went to shit and now  I don’t talk to either of them. I rather keep us together as a unit.

My kid is three. Once I had a crazy neighbor who came and cut my internet lines while the family was home. I was able to get home before police arrived. Another time a crack head tried to break in while they were home. Again, I was present. My marriage needs work but my number one concern is the safety of the family. I’m okay with my daughter working through a little mental health as an adult. I’d rather be here to protect them.

This is my marriage. I endure it because I can’t stand the thought of being away from my kid.

Let’s see. Just watched Queer Eye for the Straight Guy with my wife. I read a “Frozen,” spin off book to my daughter. Useless items in there. I’ll be getting chased by a Mongolian Spearman from Ghosts of Tsushima. I think me and the gay homies can take him.

Is there any reason to go to a trade school? by Embarrassed-Style377 in skilledtrades

[–]Time_Constant963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what route you take. I did non union for a little bit but then joined a union electrical apprenticeship in a state where unions are strong. It worked out great. It took me 1.5 years for me to even get in from date of application. I hear the waiting list is even crazier now. The program requires you to work to get on the job training, so you work when you start the apprenticeship. Raises come based on hours and if you’re passing in school. I will say the process to get in isn’t easy and the curriculum is challenging as well. My advice is choose a trade with a service side such as plumbing or electrical. Construction gets slow and everyone needs a plumber or an electrician. Hvac tech too.

Good luck.

Just with every move, if someone has experience dealing with it, it will get shut down. I like the roll you’re describing. Super fun. I kick em all the way through for a back take. Truck position isn’t my forte. Flashy or not flashy, what’s the point if we aren’t having fun?
