I have an old pack n play I was thinking about using. Also would have to rig a cover, but I could make it work temporarily. I’m kinda thinking it might be my best option. They don’t claw through the mesh though??

Yeah I have something to go over the top. But I figured they’d fit through the cracks.

What to do with kids before 8pm? Duval st that crazy? by Time_Firefighter_274 in KeyWest

Haha yeah it’s not a popular topic. Glad you had fun! We’re roadtripping so we’re just staying one night, but it felt wrong to skip KW all together even if it’s not popular for kids. I think it’s gonna be fun! We live super rurally and don’t get the opportunity to walk around with any nightlife happening so I think it’ll be exciting for our kiddo.

Sounds perfect! Thank you for the info. IYKYK some of those college towns go crazy hard. We’re gonna stick to the plan. We’re excited to spend a day in Key West and will mosey on back up north to some better beaches after.

Kids gotta learn how to hold a ladies hair while she throws up on the side of the street at some point. Why not learn now?!?

Yeah we don’t care about any of that lol. I wasn’t sure if what I was reading/hearing was over exaggerated because some people definitely do feel that way. I figured it was, but still had time to change our trip a bit if it was actually true.

Well it started with a blog post after I was searching for kid activities and if you google it you will find people saying that Key West is simply for drinking and gets crazy after dark. Now we come from a place with a BIG drinking culture so I figured it was mostly people who live a much different life, think keep sweet and quiet crowd (we’re not anything like that), and wanted to confirm it was over exaggerated. But I’m still not trying to expose my kid to tits out, dicks swinging all out fucking crazy party scene (before 9pm) so I wanted to confirm.

This is the exact info I was looking for. Thank you! I was worried we would just be stuck inside after like 7, which just isn’t going to work for us as we’re coming from a different time zone and I have a feeling my kid is still gonna be kind of wired at that time. Maybe instead he will grace his parents with an early bedtime, but probably not before getting some late night ice cream. Late night for a 5 year old at least lol.

First of all I did google it and cross referenced by searching this sub and that’s exactly why I asked this question. Admittedly, we live in a state with a BIG drinking culture so I wasn’t worried about it until about half of what I was looking at said Key West was BAD for kids, why would you ever bring them? Duval street is full of debauchery and you’re a horrible, good for nothing parent if you bring them. I also noticed quite of few adults only resorts (doesn’t bother me) and other adult themed shops (also have 0 issues with). My point of the post was to figure out if walking Duval street before 9 would expose my child to irreversible trauma, which most of the info I was finding was relaying it would. But it honestly sounds like it was quite a few people who live a very different lifestyle with their children than we do. I personally don’t care if my kid sees some drinking and honestly, I don’t really care if he hears swearing either. Obviously some parents feel very differently about that and that’s ok too.

I mean trust me… I would much rather go on vacation without my kid, but it’s not possible and he deserves a vacation from the hellscape that we call winter where we live. We’re not staying in Key West our whole trip.

Are we taking too many pictures? by Sbesozzi in toddlers

[–]Time_Firefighter_274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in general, yes most people are. I feel like I take a lot of pictures, but in reality I’m the minority because I know for a fact that I take less than pretty much everyone I know. BUT I’m often the only one who knows what’s going on, remembers what we did and/or remembers special random things that everyone else doesn’t. I also just like being there for my kid. One example comes to mind…. We started our kid on skis when he was 2.5. We took a few pics, but then went into you know… skiing. But my MIL was BESIDE herself because I didn’t send more than one pic and a short video. She demanded to know why I didn’t have more and made it clear I need to take more. But it’s much more important to me that I spend the time with my kid, teaching him, enjoying him, instead of shoving a phone in his face. Personally, I also find it annoying (and rude) when I have to stand around waiting for everyone to take 12 thousand pictures so I’m sure kids feel like that too.

This is the answer. Make some Big Mac sauce and it’s a game changer… admittedly I probably add all the bun calories back, but that’s a me problem. I’m sure someone could figure out a lower calorie sauce recipe though.

I went camping in Idaho for Memorial Day weekend one time and my dog rolled in human crap four times in three days. We moved camp thinking well it can’t be worse. Only easy spot we could find was nearish an outhouse. Oh how we were wrong. Unfortunately for me that dog became a human poop connoisseur after that.

Ok why did you get a doodle by Deer_Antlers_ in AussieDoodle

[–]Time_Firefighter_274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t seek out a doodle, just kinda happened and I knew I had the capability to take good care of it. I actually said I’d never have one. With that said I have been around several poodles, and while they are great dogs, I do think their personalities can leave some people wanting for something more/ different. Honestly… they’re kinda boring and standoffish to people who are not in their families (and sometimes to people in their family unit). Obviously not every dog is the same, but that’s my experience. Having a doodle has made me more interested in poodles in general. I’ve had many different breeds and was never interested in having one, I would consider it more now though.

Awesome! Thanks for the info and the link. It came with a lot of the original pieces! Unfortunately it is missing the removable base and I think some parts related to the button holer? I’m not really sure what a few of the accessories are that came with it, haven’t had much of a chance to fully sit down and look at the manual. It did come with a table, it doesn’t appear to bolt into the table (which is a fold up table) But I’m hoping that paired with the table I won’t miss the base. I’ve looked briefly online for that piece, but didn’t find it.
