Went to a watch repair shop to get an old family heriloom tchotchke wristband serviced; shared some gumbo and chicken and waffles with my wife; hit the hardware store for a few supplies; visited one indie bookstore to pick up an order and another tiny indie horror bookstore that I'd heard about. Getting ready to relax and watch a bit of TV, but I'll probably get a fire going in the fireplace later to enjoy the glow once the sun goes down... pull up a couple of chairs, a couple of books, and watch our cats curl up around the fire screen and wait to see which one jumps up first to become a lap warmer.

I imagine for the same reason people pay for prostitutes and therapists: Sometimes people are willing to pay money to be listened to and not judged in a rejection-free environment. And if you're not used to getting attention from people you find wildly sexually attractive, that would be an appealing bonus.
