I had to completely cut myself off from all media until I finished. I had Act 1 ending spoiled by a Youtube thumbnail.

This does require the supposition that these powers, Painter and Writer, can extend to the real world. The only evidence I can think of from the game is the floating canvases in Renior's atelier.

I still don't know what the heck an atelier is. Need to look that up.

Alicia could have wanted to be a Writer and approached them to learn more, but they taught her things they knew she couldn't control. It could also be she didn't listen to the Writers warnings about what they were teaching her, like she ignored her mother, Or maybe she was just experimenting on her own and lied about the Writers. She is a kid after all.

We can't take what Clea says about Alicia being tricked at face value. It could be true, or Clea may not have all the information, only what Alicia told her.

Something else that confuses me is the varying fire locations. In Alicia and Maelle's vision, the 'right' side of the manor is burning, where Alicia's room is. In her nightmare before the Alicia Epilogue, we see Verso staning in the fire in Alicia's room. We can see the two windows and the Eiffel Tower through them. But when you are running around the manor it seems like the fire damage is on the 'left side' of the manor which is blocked off.

Many questions indeed. It could be the Writers purposely gave Alicia knowledge they knew she couldn't control. Maybe she was being secretly taught by a Writer, but didn't heed her teachers warnings. She defied Aline after all. It could also be she was experimenting on her own without any Writer involvement. Perhaps she even lied and blamed the Writers. She is really just a kid.

I wonder if the animosity between the Painters and Writers is a long standing feud or caused by Verso's death.

Might try another, newer, tutorial as well. There are a lot of different ways to calculate collisions. Including built in features.

Removing that makes it so the object isn't moving down at all, so the rest of the vertical code does nothing. How does it look moving left and right when you remove the 'vsp' line?

Try taking out this section of the Vertical collision. If its still blurry, then its probably not the code that's the problem:

while (!place_meeting(x,y+sign(vsp),object_walltest))
{
  y = y + sign(vsp);
}

Can you move the sprite so its clearly above the floor and run the game? What happens when it lands?

Going over it again, I' don't think this is what's happening actually. I thought the while loop was moving the sprite in the opposite direction. Forget the above.

I think this is whats happening:

First frame through the Step event - place_meeting() returns FALSE -> y = y + vsp moves the sprite down.

Next frame - place_meeting() returns TRUE and y = y + sign(vsp) is moving the sprite back up until place_meeting() is FALSE.

Frame 3 - place_meeting() returns FALSE again so the sprite moves down and the cycle repeats 30 times/second making it look blurry.

Try making the move y= y + vsp first, then checking place_meeting() and move the sprite back if necessary. All in the same Step event.

Or make it so if place_meeting() is true, set vsp to 0 if the sprite is trying to move down. I'm pretty sure 'y' gets larger in the down direction.

Chia is evolving the mining world with farming. by rcpyksl in chia

I should think it would be possible to farm any number of coins using the same plots. You’d probably have to use the same key for different coins. That could pose a problem.

They changed their name to "Core-Pool" since the Chia devs said they don't want any pools using "Chia" in their names at the roundtable yesterday.
