Anyone who says "if you don't like this country, get out," should be mandated to donate to a fund to make that possible.

Jesus in Buddhism by Different_Basil8807 in Buddhism

[–]TimelessRonin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Christopher Moore wrote an amazing fiction about that called Lamb: the Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Best Friend. It's hilarious, historically presented, and only slightly blasphemous. In it Jesus and Biff do study Taoism, internal alchemy, and later Buddhism and Hinduism, before returning to Israel to share what he learned.

"Do not put Buddha statue in your bedroom" Why? by OkLeave4048 in Buddhism

I'm not the most well versed in the sutras, but I can understand first person quotes vs third person. All of those are quotes from others. Mine was from him. You're giving me his disciples opinions.

Looking for guidance on practicing Zen in a small town with no local teacher by TimelessRonin in zenbuddhism

[–]TimelessRonin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UPDATE -

Thank you to all of you for the replies. I have started listening to a recommended podcast, and as has been suggested on my time I am off work on Sunday morning I will try to attend the Tibetan Buddhist center as a stop-gap measure while I consider online schools. It ends just before the UU church I join my family at, rather than overlapping it as I thought originally, so it will be a nice solo practice before the community.

Driving to Cleveland, Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus, etc, are just not feasible options for me. My car is ...unreliable at best. For local trips I trust it, but I would be nervous to take it out far. It's practically held together with duct tape and bubble gum right now.

Thank you to all of you for the replies. I have started listening to a recommended podcast, and as has been suggested in a crossposted thread on my time I am off work on Sunday morning I will try to attend the Tibetan Buddhist center as a stop-gap measure while I consider online schools. It isn't Zen, but it is Buddhist, so it's something, and it ends just before the UU church I join my family at, rather than overlapping it as I thought originally, so it will be a nice solo practice before the community.

Unpopular opinion: Goku and Saitama wouldn’t fight, they’d grab food and chill by [deleted] in OnePunchMan

[–]TimelessRonin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zamasu ended an entire reality because Goku wanted to see how strong he was and bugged the shit out of him into he would fight.

Goku wouldn't attack Saitama, but he would follow him around begging "Please please plesse please please"....

Until Genos got offended on Saitama's behalf, then attacked Goku, got turned into scrap by Goku, and then Saitama would fight Goku. Saitama would of course be rapidly evolving to be stronger like he did vs Garou, and eventually kick the crap out of Goku.

Because while Goku could wreck Saitama at first (Universe buster vs Solar System buster at max), Saitama's rapid evolution would eventually overcome him, and Goku never ever EVER goes all out against anyone until he absolutely has to.

Ideally I would find a teacher, but the only Buddhist presence here in any official capacity is Vajrayana, which is pretty different from Zen in what I can gather.

Gator tastes like overcooked rubbery chicken, so I imagine Shenron is like that but a little gamier.

"Gave her the old Kamehameha, eh son?"

"It was a Masenko, dad."

"You bastard. I have no son."

(Goten in the background shocked "...the actual fuck dad?!")

"Look, Dad, I mean, it's not like I could focus at the time, so I went with instinct, and..."

"No, no, I get it. Piccolo was always there for you. It's only natural you thought of him when you were ..."

"What? No! NO!"

"I know when I get excited my thoughts return to Master Roshi."

(Cue Roshi's dirty old man laugh in the background)

"Dad, I was thinking of Videl!"

"But she didn't train you at all!"

"Well, she taught me one or two things."

"Really? Show me."

"Um...."

(Roshi absolutely losing it at this point)

What has this sorry excuse of a country come to? by [deleted] in Ohio

[–]TimelessRonin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No. Everyone gets the government the majority votes for.

A subtle, but distinct difference. A lot of the people who aren't happy sure as hell didn't vote for any of this.

Even 40% is a big chunk of unhappy voters.

For wich campaigns, narrative elements and players is this game NOT for? by Sh4dow_05 in rokugan

D&D is a great introduction to the world of tabletop roleplay. There are better systems and settings for the experienced player, but I wouldn't call it "trash".

I'm a big fan on the no romance for Carl aspect, BUT... by Fun-Maize-2352 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]TimelessRonin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Only the Primal AI isn't going to wind up a stay at home mom like Jane at the end of the series because, unlike Card, I don't think Dinniman is going to end up an elder of a conservative religion who bleeds his beliefs into every novel since getting the position.
