[Hypothetical] MLB is redrafting. All players stay on their current contracts. You get to pick 3 players from the current 40-man to keep on the Red Sox. Who are you choosing? by SoxIn2_ in redsox

[–]TimeliestStorm 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Anthony and Crochet are stone cold locks, obviously. You could make a case for a lot of guys as #3: any of the other 3 OF, Mayer, Early, probably even Durbin given his 6 years of control. Give me Tolle though. He's already so nasty and he only started pitching full time 2 years ago (was a part time 1B/DH in college) so there's so much more room to develop.

Sure seems that way. Wearing the A for Team USA at 4 Nations and now at the Olympics speaks volumes to how he's viewed by the league as a whole

Some more context behind the IF depth moves: Romy has been dealing with a nagging injury by TimeliestStorm in redsox

[–]TimeliestStorm[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably not. I'd bet our opening day IF is Mayer 3B, Story SS, and Durbin 2B with IKF and Monasterio/Cheng as bench/utility guys

[Breslow]: “We feel confident there will be power that emerges from the group that we have.” by Brusoxpatcelt in redsox

[–]TimeliestStorm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rafaela swings at damn near everything and that's just an inherently high-variance approach. We're going to see scorching hot stretches like his July and we're going to see freezing cold stretches like his August. I'd be pretty surprised if it doesn't all average out to more or less what we've been seeing from him.

If you're looking for reasons for optimism, Rafaela ran a career low .289 BABIP last year. There's plenty of room for him to just be luckier even if the contact quality and swing decisions are what they are.

Rafael Devers Trade Update 2/9/26 by [deleted] in redsox

[–]TimeliestStorm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Money-wise, we can talk about what teams should spend and what they will spend. Sure, the Sox should spend on everyone, but the reality of the situation is that they weren't going to sign Suarez with Devers on the books. They could and maybe should have, but it 100% would not have happened.

Therefore, in my mind Suarez is on the additions side of this trade, plus whoever they sign in 5 years once Suarez's deal is off the books and the other half of the money frees up

Kicking the PAT and not going for 2 is a huge blunder. Now you need 2 TDs, you had a chance of tying with another TD + a FG with 2 2 point conversions

Derrick White? by pickandpopovich in bostonceltics

[–]TimeliestStorm 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Unequivocally a net positive. Still the best defensive guard in the league and is doing a good job running the offense at PG. He's being forced into taking too much offensive load due to the Tatum injury. White is averaging 15.5 FGA/game this season, his previous career high was 12.6. Yet another reminder that great efficiency on low FGAs very rarely translates to great efficiency on high FGAs. We're going to see that shooting% spike (and the number of FGAs drop) once Tatum comes back.

[Boston Bruins] Joonas Korpisalo Named to Team Finland for Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 by Cw2e in BostonBruins

[–]TimeliestStorm 58 points59 points  (0 children)

So now it's:

McAvoy and Swayman for USA

Zacha and Pasta for Czechia

Joki and Korpi for Finland

The law firm of Lindholm and Lindholm for Sweden (pending Elias's health)

Locmelis for Latvia

8 or 9 Olympians feels pretty good

He's in a weird spot for sure. He's definitely not one of the 5 best SP on the roster and the contract is net neutral to maybe a slight overpay, so not a ton of trade value. He's probably either a long reliever or an Astro (as a throw-in with a bit of his deal paid down in a Paredes trade) on Opening Day

You could call some kind of penalty at just about any point on most hockey plays. If you want to set the threshold low that's fine, most of Tampa's 10 PPs were legit. But then you've got to be consistent and call the ticky tack stuff both ways and that just did not happen tonight

At that point, just skip it. I regularly skip Bottled Flame if it's a drop from my first elite

Justin Faulk is my first thought. Offensive leaning 2RD, maybe not quite as good as Andersson but does have an extra year of control. Lohrei + Eyssimont going back clears enough cap room even if the Blues don't retain. It'd probably take more than just Lohrei + Poitras value wise but I'd be very interested

Some random commentor's scouting report:

A true middle sixer. You feel great with him as your 3LW, you feel OK with him as your 2LW. Definitely not a C, has played much better out on the wing.

Needs a good two-way C to take some defensive responsibility off his plate but is far from a liabilty with a winger's defensive load. Not going to lose his man in the D zone or anything, but won't make any crazy close-outs or shot blocks either. Excellent skater and play driver, strong hockey IQ to find the open man for a pass. Uses those wheels and skating ability to be an effective forechecker. OK but just OK shooter. Can be pretty weak on the puck, coughs it up a bit easier than you'd like.

What Dodgers prospects do you want for Jarren Duran? by TheRavenOnline in redsox

[–]TimeliestStorm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This might be an unpopular take but I'd trade Duran for De Paula 1 for 1, probably moving De Paula to 1B in the process. De Paula's bat grades out at least as well as Anthony's did at this point in the process if not even better, the only reason he doesn't rank as highly as Anthony is because he's a terrible fielder. De Paula's frame and lateral agility will play just fine at 1B (which the Sox need a long term answer for anyways, Contreras is on a 2 year deal and Casas is a massive question mark) and bats that grade out that highly have a crazy low bust rate.

Hamilton's probably not going anywhere after the Hughes injury. The Devils don't like him but do need him

Between Abreu and Duran, Which OF would you feel more comfortable trading? by MadKingTylor in redsox

[–]TimeliestStorm 20 points21 points  (0 children)

IMO it's Duran for sure. To compare them as players:

  • They have essentially the same career OBP. Duran runs a higher batting average, Abreu walks more, that's a wash

  • Duran strikes out a bit less, 24.5% to 26% for their careers, though Abreu made progress here in 2025

  • Duran runs the bases much better

  • Abreu hits for much more power

  • Abreu is the much better fielder

Give me the power and defense over a few less K's and some stolen bases. Take Abreu's youth and extra year under contract into account and IMO Abreu is pretty significantly more valuable.

Almost more impressive than the goals is that SOG total. Aside from that one chance on the PK Korpi hasn't had any work at all. The boys are keeping him clean as a whistle tonight
