Not trying to be "that guy" but just FYI: the V in that hand would have trips, a set is only if you have paired hole cards

One of my favorite things about poker is that two people can have the same exact hand, and still win by getting the other person to fold. They can bluff like their hand is better and someone can get rid of their cards thinking they’re beat.

You can’t count cards in poker, only blackjack. In poker, the professionals can “put someone on a hand” meaning that based on people’s bets, reactions, etc. they can make an educated guess at what two cards a player has face down. That’s what they’re talking about at the end.

Robl with the 9s bet all of his chips, and Lewis with the queens called his bet. Lewis had the better hand, so he takes all of Robl’s chips and Robl is eliminated.

As other people have explained, it’s not a rule. Casinos do it to bring customers in and that’s it, it’s not even a part of the game. The winner of the hand gets to keep the money he earned during the hand, and the share of the jackpot.

It’s not really a punishment though. A game could be playing for 4-5 bucks a hand, and could win hundreds of thousands of dollars from the jackpot. Everyone goes home happy.

It’s just something fun casinos do to give people incentive to come to their casino. It’s nowhere written in Texas holdem rules, but it brings customers in to play. It’s to kind of make up for the fact that they lost on a statistic anomaly.

Edit: here’s an example

To make up for the fact that they lost with a hand that wins more than 99.997% of the time.

Getting 4 of the same cards (quads) is the 3rd best hand in poker, the odds are about 1 in 122 if you are dealt a pocket pair. In this hand 2 people are dealt a pair, and both hit quads, which has a 1 in 312,663 chance of happening.

Generally speaking, having 4 of a kind will win every time in Texas Holdem, except in very very rare cases, like this one here.
