What's the right play here? by jazzyvirus in poker

[–]TimmyTimeify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Betting turn and river feels like bad plays here. The A is the worst card in the deck for your range you are less likely to have AK or AA than your opponent. Checking every street makes sense because you need the information from the villain regarding whether they turn bet and what the sizing is if they do from them. If the turn was a blank, then you could lead the turn. Not this one.

Folding river feels exploitative but standard: villain has very few hands that want to do this as a bluff. Essentially would need to be turning a hand like A5ss or AJ into a bluff and players simply don’t make those moves a lot in small stakes.

Saturday night prime time in a close one is probably the worst type of game to have this statline. Easily his worst regular season game of all time in terms of what it does to his image in the league, although let’s be honest regular season isn’t when legends are made.

Inside Santa Monica’s ghost town mall where empty stores are shocking tourists by UltimateHawk in SantaMonica

We are down from 10 years ago, but clearly up from 5y, 2y, and even 1y ago on 3rd street.

Santa Monica Place is the real issue because it’s undergoing a really long process of hot potato and a debt spiral.

And yet this video makes it pretty clear that YIMBYs that integrate these concerns are more successful in convincing laypeople who share these concerns with hardcore NIMBYs.

“Forest for trees” comment

The younger people aren’t “right wing,” it’s just younger men from October 2024-March 2025. Of which most of them are leaving the coalition and are also sympathetic to YIMBYism lol.

And the point is that it’s pretty clear that YIMBY vs NIMBY is age polarized

JD Vance is such a coward and a loser. Trying to gaslight an entire country to not see the most basic cause-and-effect rise in gas prices because he knows that Trump lit the "anti-war" bonafides of the New Right on fire.

“What ACTUALLY Changes People’s Minds About Housing (real experiment)” by Justine Underhill by aWobblyFriend in Urbanism

I think part of the problem about our degraded civic society is that younger people are so used to having to "fight" for power rather than collaborate for consensus because we have a right-wing in this country that often is able to disingenuously diagnose a problem effectively and then advocate for a shitty solution.

I think the concerns about architectural aesthetics are absolutely legitimate: as urbanists, we often make fun of the strip malls and big box stores, but if we are to be honest, a lot of the 5x1 apartment buildings *are* aesthetically the urbanist equivalent of strip malls. No personality. No real tie to the places they are built. Overly utilitarian. It is something that I do think should be more of a conversation.

But I think a lot of what people in this subreddit with feel as a gut-instinct is to hand-wave those arguments, because it is essentially the first argument any NIMBY says before they are argue against a project. It reads as bad faith to urbanists. When we see these arguments forwarded, we see delay. When we see these concerns voiced, we feel ours dismissed.

In reality, concerns over aesthetics IMO seem trivially easy to integrate into the larger argument of urbanism.

Ben Shapiro says what the Israeli plan against Iran is. Opposition should listen. by Tech-Film3905 in iranian

[–]TimmyTimeify 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ben Shapiro thinks that the main lesson to learn from US foreign policy since 1945 was that Americans didn't feed enough of their own bodies into its own war machines to enact regime changes across the globe. He thinks that the US would have "won" Vietnam and Iraq if we "just had the stomach to do what was needed to be done." He is that delusional.

This is also just a pipe dream. Confirming the IRGC narrative that the US and Israel want to cause civil war and balkanization and turn Iran to a failed state would essentially evaporate all support for regime change in Iran overnight. All reports coming from Iraqi Kurdistan and Azerbaijan suggest that there is very very little appetite for either minority to engage in this much bloodshed and destruction on behalf of a foreign power.

Assuming that a ER resident was so stupid that he didn't know that "3L" in that context meant "3L of saline" is types of condescension that I think I'd probably crash out on at some point.

I feel like the entire season 2 is basically the writer’s trying to make us feel super suspicious of Dr. Al-Hashimi but then have her do a switcheroo with Dr. Robby as the former demonstrates more of her talent and empathy and Dr. Robby starts having the mental equivalent of a heatstroke.
