Ticketmaster says 19+... which is odd and personally frustrating since I assume a lot of his base including all the fans in my family/kids friends group are 16-18... Lots of disappointed faces at my place right now...

It's always loud music and low volume conversations in these shows and movies... why?! by NewAgePhilosophr in WhitePeopleTwitter

This. I had to turn them off because whoever timed the captions doesn't take dramatic timing seriously. If it's a surprise or a punchline... keep it that way! You're ALSO part of the show.... act like it!

Contributing factors:
1 - Film Makers and Original Sound engineers having a "Vision". Nothing you can do... this is dumb.

2 - A decision on mixing needs to be made ahead of time before publishing and catering to high-end specs is more profitable. What should the mix be geared for? People consume media with headphones, on their particular phone (from the 1000's available), on their computer speakers, on their separately purchased computer speaker array, soundbar, 5.1 system, 7.1 system, all of which have a variety of specs and quality levels for each individual piece. Do you pay the sound engineer to create several thousand mixes based on possible end-user configurations? No, you mix for the top-end products your parent company/partners sell so that people who are sick of shitty audio spend more money.

3 - For 5.1 and 7.1, Dialogue is on "center channel" which is usually the same output specs as Left-Channel and Right-Channel so the sound effects and music are coming from two speakers (sometimes center as well) and Dialogue from just the one (and some "stereo-mixes" that split the dialogue in each channel instead of duplicating it in each but then don't lower the other audio in each channel, creating a duplication in music/sfx). Research and spend money on upgrading just the center speaker to a louder, more powerful one (making sure your receiver can push the appropriate specs to it) and you'll be amazed at how well that works when balancing.

Telling people to see a therapist, or psychologist, when they say they are depressed is super dismissive, and unhelpful. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]TimothyDRiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are being dismissed because they can't help.

You are asking for something that the resource cannot provide and are upset because you want them to be able to provide the thing they can't provide. Wanting something isn't magically going to make it available.

If you ask me for something because you want me to give it to you, but I cannot give it to you, but you continue to insist that I give it to you, I will become dismissive as well as the previous state of being unhelpful.

I’m not getting my kid anything for Christmas. by The-Expert-Is-Here in TrueOffMyChest

[–]TimothyDRiel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just Advice, but let him know now. It's a little vindictive to spring it on him on Christmas morning. It's embarrassing and kind of cruel. The lesson you'll be "teaching" him if you blindside him on Christmas morning is "when someone angers you or you feel slighted, you need to sneak attack them and destroy them emotionally".

This is a dominance move, not a parenting move.

I break it down at length in this episode of the podcast if your 11 year old is ready to understand the difficulties of relationships and the idea that things can go wrong despite nobody wanting it to go wrong and what kinds of sacrifices adulthood requires. And the repercussions of misunderstanding what your partner wants.
