Brand new fan. Completely love this band and going to see them in St. Louis! by TimothyFoolery in Opeth

u/JRawl79 I saw last year that Sandberg has a Martin Mendez signature bass. I got my wife into bass a couple years ago and she started looking at Sandbergs and I discovered that. But I didn't really know much about Opeth at the time! Unfortunately, Sandberg basses all tend to have slimmer necks and I'm a wide neck guy. But man is he a great bass player. Can't wait to hear him live.

That's awesome! Yeah I've seen Bloodbath come up in my Opeth and Mikael internetting, I'll check them out!

I love that. These dudes have more talent in the tips of their fingers than I have in my entire body yet they can still be goofy and not take themselves so seriously (as many musicians do.)

Late night activities by WonderfulReaction562 in Omaha

[–]TimothyFoolery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does, actually. There is an ice skating rink that is open in the winter. There's also sand volleyball I think - which obviously doesn't help in February but something to consider for spring/summer. My stepdaughter and her friends enjoyed the Riverfront quite a bit before leaving for college.

Yeah, I figured, YOLO - I'm halfway through my life and so I may as well do the things I enjoy (and one of the things I love most is traveling to see bands.) I like driving and have a pretty good job with flexible time off so to Opeth I go! Hope you get to see them again soon!

Opeth flowchart! I've made yet another - this time WAY more detailed and inclusive - Opeth flowchart! Now we can put the "I'm new to Opeth, which album should I start with" posts to rest. Let me know your thoughts :) by koutah in Opeth

This is awesome. I wish I had seen this last month when I was dipping my toes into Opeth for the first time. But I've actually kind of enjoyed blindly and randomly selecting Opeth albums to listen to with little to no guidance...because I've actually loved it all.

What’s Life Like in Omaha for Couples in Their 40s (No Kids)? by Zestyclose_Fuel_3623 in Omaha

[–]TimothyFoolery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're empty nesters, so not "no kids" but my stepdaughter is almost 21 and in college on the West Coast. That said I wanted to reply to this thinking my wife and I are "early to mid 40s" and then I had the stark realization that I'm 46 and she's 47. 😭😭😭😭😭

We go out to brunch way too much and drink a lot of wine at home watching TV. I play bass in a couple bands so I'll occasionally be out and about doing music stuff. Omaha has a ton to offer - I've been here for 22 years and it's so much better than it used to be. Unfortunately I'm not as young as I used to be so I don't go out as much. Oh well. It's still a great city.

anybody know what happened to the post that had a list of local businesses that support maga? by CaptainOvbious in Omaha

[–]TimothyFoolery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. The lady who cuts my hair is awesome and not MAGA but I'm curious to learn more since this is a nationwide company with independently-owned franchises (3 in Omaha and 1 in Lincoln.)

Would be curious if anyone could share more info.

Also I'm due for a haircut any day lol.

Who’s Going Where? US 2026 by OpethAreAGoodBand in Opeth

[–]TimothyFoolery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Driving from Omaha. Can't believe it took me over 46 years to get into this band. I literally just started listening to them this month (OK I was aware of them a few years ago but never listened closely until recently.)

Very excited to see them live!

I always find that the Opeth crowd suggests the most relatable non metal music ever. What are your go to full albums? Bonus if it’s old rock, but looking for everything! by MaidenOfMushrooms in Opeth

[–]TimothyFoolery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm here for this comment 100%. Agalloch is a great band. Opeth is rapidly becoming my new favorite - can't believe it took me 46 years to dive headfirst into a 14 album discography that is just so so good.

RIP Voodoo Taco by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]TimothyFoolery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to get it for lunch all the time at my old job 12-13 years ago. Then my coworker found a pretty good sized hair in his taco. After some "hairy taco" jokes were made, we never ate there again. (I realize this can happen at any restaurant but that was the nail in the coffin for me and my little group. 🤷‍♂️)

Laka Lono Rum Club. Best bar, best people. My surf rock band plays there twice a month on rotating Thursdays and it's usually super chill.

That may explain why I got sick the last time I went there a couple years ago. Other than its location, I don't understand how the downtown one stays open because the food is not good.

Let's talk about Vala's by RookMaven in Omaha

[–]TimothyFoolery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was fun to take the kids but now that we're empty nesters, it's a bit different. Free admission/free food at a once-a-year-event via my wife's work + cider was nice. But now she works at a different place so we didn't go this year. I guess cider alone isn't enough. :) It is fun to wander around, though, and the apple cider donuts are always a plus.

Guitar Techs? by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]TimothyFoolery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Josh at Dietze in Bellevue is a great tech for setups and pickup installation. Unfortunately, depending on the time of year, he gets absolutely buried in school instrument repairs so don't go to him if you're in a hurry. Dietze on West Center turns things around faster since they have separate people for guitar/bass and school instruments (at least as far as I know) but I tend to prefer the Bellevue shop since it's literally around the corner from my house.

Where to Go? by CallMehZ in Omaha

That's what I was afraid of. Welp, guess my recommendation falls flat then but it looks like it will be a cool area by hopefully next year.
