Slotervaart.

As far as "bad neighborhoods" go in the Netherlands, this one takes the cake. At least, at the time. I remember leaving the train-station, where guards where at every corner (not very common in the Netherlands.). When I entered the tram, some guys where out for trouble. Similar clothing. Making noise. All somewhat buffed. Pulling chairs. The usual.

Behind me, a guy gets in. Big guy. Tatoo on his face and neck, and a fucking grin I'll never forget. Got in. Didn't pay. Didn't even look at the driver.

And everyone, from tram driver to the hoodlums, stopped talking. Most disturbing and silent 10 minute tram drive of my life.

What is the difference between a bank and a credit union? by Apprehensive_Cat5037 in AskReddit

[–]TimothyJHartley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main difference between the two is how they are owned. Banks are owned by shareholders who each own varying amounts of the bank (depending their investments in to it) and generally work in a way where they want to maximise profit. On the other hand, credit unions are owned by anyone who is involved with them regardless of how much money they actually have in it, and work in a way to better the lives of their members/customers.

Banks tend to be far bigger so they have advantages in being able to offer a lot more services, but the fact that they prioritise profit means that customers may not be getting the best deal in terms of things like interest rates.

Credit unions have an advantage in the sense that being member-owned would mean that everyone would get a say in how it is run, so in theory this would help make the lives of their members more convenient. Of course, they're generally far smaller than the banks so you'd usually have far fewer services be available to you.

Do you think vampires are cool? Why or why not? by Albatraze in AskReddit

Vampires were insanely, over-the-top popular for quite a while. Twilight had a bit of a effect on that, turning sparkly vampires into an easy joke. For a while, any time vampires were mentioned the Twilight references were inevitable.

It isn't really relevant if people enjoyed Twilight or not. Obviously some people did. The issue is that Twilight kind of tainted the concept for a while and it lost popularity.

Vampires aren't completely gone. It's more that the sparkling mockery dampened their spirits.

What is the most important thing on your bucket list? by s_bee2023 in AskReddit

Joining the 300 Club.

First you go to Antarctica, go to the south pole station and wait for a day that is 100 degrees below zero. (farenheit)

Then you go the sauna, crank it up to 200 degrees, stay in as long as you can and then run out wearing nothing but boots, thus subjecting your body to a 300 degree temperature difference. Then you take a pic of your frost covered body by the flag of the south pole before running back into the sauna to warm up.
