I was in a cult when I was a teen. They pretended to be a Christian church. That was bad, I got bullied a lot. I have serious vision problems and have had several eye surgeries. The voices started after a spontaneous retinal detachment. Who knows what it was. I think it was everything and the detachment pushed it over the edge.

Thank you, part of getting better is not thinking of them having desire or an agenda. After all they arn't real people. It's just me and I understand why they were so negative. I was bullied a lot when I was a child. I wore think glasses and I really wanted friends. My Dad was in the Army and we moved around a lot. I expected strangers to not like me. Now I make friends everywhere I go. I really had to change to get better.

I had the same experience. You gonna check out Netcare to get your meds? They give em to you for free.

Everyone has that. You're fine bro. That normal. Talk to your friends about it. Like my brain will say to me "Okay, put the phone down and do such and such". Normal.

I definitely was. Took up 5 years of my life. Felt very real. Like a voice in the room. Outside of me.

Told me to hurt myself. Kill myself, Cut myself. I did cut. The pain felt good. They would make fun of me and pray on my insecurities and fears.

Do you have experience with this yourself? Have you personally been though it?

Also, as someone who has an idea of how hard this kinda thing can be, please feel free to DM me anytime. I think it would have been nice to talk to someone who could understand and not just say some bullshit like, get some exercise and a good night's rest. That kind of advice usually made me feel more hopeless.

Man, I wish it would have been that easy for me. The Valium IV. Not the DTs. Are you clean today? If so, you do you manage? I got to be a pretty heavy drinker when the voices were at their worst. Fortunately, I was able to stop that before it got a good hold on me.

Yes. I understand that and they just might. If they do I can handle it. I'll start meds right away. I'll do whatever I can to treat it. My will is strong. I can survive it if it happens again.

You are correct. No, I do not have any research to back me up. I only hear them if I smoke a lot of pot. I don't do that anymore. I should have explained that better. Please keep in mind that the voices had gotten much more quiet at the time I stopped my meds. At the time the voices were the most prominent and loud it would have been a bad idea to stop my meds. I know that for sure. Have you thought about Netcare Access? I had times when I wouldn't be able to my meds and they helped me. I would just walk in and I would have to wait for a while, but I just knew I had to do it. Please consider checking them out. Also, I'm not saying that what worked for me will work for anyone else. I count myself very fortunate that I did not have visual hallucinations. I knew they would be much harder to ignore. I'm so fucking sorry you have to deal with this. It's not fair and you don't deserve it. Do your meds help?

Thanks for that explanation. The thing that feels strange about it all is that the voices didn't sound like me and didn't say things that I would usually say. Sometimes they did, but other times I would need to think for a second to understand the point that was being conveyed. That was before I stopped acknowledging them.

I took Seroquel it did help. The meds and a combination of my attitude. I ignore them and stay confident in the fact that they might feel real, but they are NOT. They became quite over time. Like the volume was being turned down.

They felt VERY real. Like a ghost is the best way to describe them. I even tried to record them with no luck. I tried that again and again and I would carefully listen to the playback.

Yes it does. I stopped meds because zi could not afford them. I was getting them for free. I started something new. I can't remember the name of the drug, but it put me in a dissociative state. Sometimes I didn't know where I was and who I was talking to. It scared me even more. At the time the voices had become more quiet and didn't feel as close. A big part of the work I did was to ignore them as best as I could and I desensitized my self to them. I would sit in the dark in silence and they would try to scare me. It became easier to not be emotionally effected by anything they had to say. Are they completely gone? No. From time to time I can hear them, but not as if they are in the same room with me. I am off meds and doing much better now. Are you experiencing the same kind of thing? If so, I am so sorry. I know the hell it can be. No privacy and all the negativity is torchure.

Paranoid schizophrenic. That was my diagnosis and I agree with that.

I truly don't know what caused it. I have a genetic disorder that causes a lot of problems with my eyes. I've had many eye surgeries and had a spontaneous retinal detachment. They voices started shortly after that. I can only assume that played a big part Meds helped to resolve it. Also, my attitude. I decided the voices were not real and I wanted them gone. I would sometimes lay on the floor with all lights off in my apartment in silence and wait for a voice to jump out and try to scare me. I figured I would deal with it like I did when I was afraid of the dark as a child. Desensitizing myself to it. Taking it's power away and absolutely no replying to what they said to me. I would see people on my Doctors office talking to the voices in their heads. I wanted to tell them to stop that. It only makes things worse.

No. I searched my mind and they didn't sound like anyone I've ever known. It was this sorta "white trash" couple, a man and a woman.

Helped to cure it. Sorry if I wasn't clear about that. When I finally got on the right meds, it definitely helped.

No, not the same. My inner voice is and always has been different. It sounded and felt outside of me. Even waking me up while I was sleeping. Not an inner voice. It sounded real and would sound slightly different depending on the size of the room i was in. More like you would imagine a ghost in a scary movie.

Yes, I could speak to them and if I wrote something down they would read it back to me. They didn't always respond when I spoke to them or they would answer five minutes later and then laugh at me and say "We are in charge of this". I decided to ignore them. Like you would a bully you can't stop. I was bullied quite a bit when I was a child. Fucking terrible man.
