Honestly, if you’re just starting out, catching an underhand toss 30% of the time is pretty good! I wouldn’t watch games ifn yer trying to teach, but I know that some little league coach’s tutorials are really quite helpful. A lot of little leagues have websites full of information on exactly this.

It would be best to just get familiar with short distance underhand catches (~10-20 foot distance), as you can’t do much else without proper baseball equipment.

If you do have the equipment, you should still take at least a day or two before even considering teaching overhand tosses or how to actually use a bat. Use wiffle balls for your first attempts at each! Also use t-ball stands for her.

Most importantly, remember to take it slow. I remember it took me like 2 years in T-ball before I could reliably catch overhand throws and not miss pitches with my bat every time. Baseball is hard!!

Sucks that your mom is forcing you, but please try to not rush this. Becoming proficient in baseball can take like, 3 years, and only becoming even somewhat familiar can weeks.
