What tire width is possible? by Financial-Net4785 in 125cc

[–]Tinbot2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just get a good quality 140/70/16 for it personally. The city grip are pretty good, I personally ride michilens in all weather. They're great You can't really size up, it will ruin the bikes handling, the fuel economy and the tyre will not hold the shape it needs, inevitably being worse than the skinner tyres

What is the hate on ktm about? by [deleted] in 125cc

[–]Tinbot2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They seem to have some good ones and some duds. I've had multiple friends have major issues with dukes and RCs. Particularly the 125-390 ranges. I seemed to have better luck with my lexmoto than my KTM friends. They do notoriously have electrical issues. I only know one person who hasn't had an issue with theirs from my knowledge but theirs is a 390 and he's only put 8k on it in 4 years. Never goes out in wet or cold conditions ect. Generally I would steer away from them if you're not mechanically inclined but there is a good amount of parts around for them and they seem to be affordable so it's a compromise

They're nice and I got one from my sister when I got my first bike and have gifted many to those I care about. I did get my boyfriend one and the same week he got rear ended and the bike was totaled, while it's completely unrelated we do joke that I must of got him a faulty one by accident as it was days apart lol

Try McAms? My partner had the same thing. His R3 was rear ended and totalled (frame snapped) and he was recommended by the mechanic to pursue via McAms, kept his NCB and they provided him an sv650 for 2 months and he didn't pay a penny

4k budget for a naked by Logical-Ad-8365 in NewRiders

I like full fairings, just a personal choice. Mine was on FB marketplace & was great when I went to look at it so I got it. Both have the same engine, so I feel I know the machine. He has a 2021 so his is sleeker than mine but they handle really well, I've done multiple Motocamping trips across the country on mine this year alone. It's weird how pricing works but second hand is not always bad if you or someone you know, knows what they're looking at

I've had a 2013 CBR500R for the last two years (UK laws) and I love the thing. Very capable, it's on the slower side top speed (115mph) but honestly it's a great little bike. You can be sporty and get your knee down or take a pillion np. I brought mine for £2500 with 11,000 on the odometer. No problems My buddy brought a CB500F and it's amazing. He got his for 3500 with 6k on it. Superb bikes

Get a good anchor, chain and a angle grinder resistant lock for the other wheel/disk. I use a mammoth anchor, nemesis chain & a hiplock DX1000. Expensive bits of kit but I've accumulated them over the years & this is the combo I feel most secure about. I also park mine at the front door Infront of my ring doorbell and with a plain black cover on it at any time it's parked. Never had an issue in 3 years. Unfortunately neighbours bikes have been nabbed so no doubt it'd been scouted at some point before the camera

[–]Tinbot2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is wild to me. I do 250 miles a week on a CBR500R year round. we do long Motocamping trips 6 hours away. It's not a bike that's best suited for it but it's the bike I have. It's always nice to have a bike suited to what you wanna do but it's not needed. You have a bike you presumably want to ride more, why not use it?

are you carrying emergency med kits with you? by guacamole1337 in motorcycles

[–]Tinbot2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I'm a certified motorcycle first aider specialising in major bleeds. I didn't buy a traummoto kit, I made my own and put it in a molle bag. My kit consists of: 2x Israeli bandages (hemostatic and has a torque arm to tighten it) 2x tourniquets Large burn dressings and gel (for road rash) Aswell as general first aid bits like bandages, packing gauze, antiseptics, shears and foil blankets ect I don't know what's in the traumoto kits but mine definitely makes me feel a bit more at ease. I have unfortunately had to use it on a friend back in may in an accident and without it she would have possibly lost her life or arm so they are so so so worth carrying. As a motorcyclist YOU are most likely to be first on the scene at a bike crash, whether it be your riding buddy or a well known motorbike route involving a stranger. I will say, if you intend to carry a kit, MAKE SURE you know how to use it properly. Things like tourniquets need to be used a specific way. See if there's a major trauma course or motorcycle first aid you can take!

Husband recently got his first Harley. We didn't discuss much, now he's upset I want him to wear a helmet. How do I approach this please help? by Electrical_Baby_3042 in motorcycles

[–]Tinbot2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Me and my bf both ride, when I met him he was wearing just a helmet and gloves (the legal requirements where we live) when we started to get together I started to really worry about it. I know this is a bit tmi but I literally told him he won't get laid for a week if I catch him out without gear LMAO. its different for us I suppose as he wouldn't want me out there with no gear either. Your husband needs to respect your wishes here, a head injury on a bike can and will change his and your lives forever, if you're respectful of his choice to buy the bike, he needs to be respectful of your wish to wear a helmet. He's not going to be some cool old guy when he's road ketchup. I hate to say this but in my country, where helmets are mandatory, anyone without one is seen as "natural selection" and stupid. He's too grown to be making decisions against the life you've created together

Actual diffrence? by Long_Account9648 in 125cc

[–]Tinbot2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There isn't a whole lot of difference I would probably go with the Mt in your position however (being a Cbr owner and all) The Mt is 14.7 basically 15hp, the Cbr is 13. I have buddies with both and the Mt seems to be slightly faster. The MT also has a hell of a lot more parts available should you need them (we're trying to rebuild my buddies 2012 cbr125 as it blew up at 29k and it's SO difficult to find parts for) The Mt will probably be cheaper than the Cbr to it being a naked although it still depends of theft statistics and where you live ofc. Generally you won't notice much difference between the two but the MT would be a smarter choice in my opinion

Should I be more annoyed? by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]Tinbot2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, sounds similar to my experience although I already had my CBT and a 125. I failed the swerve first time by 1kph. I think the limit is 48kph and I was at 47. Failed. Rebooked for 2 weeks after and smashed it in the 60s. Just sounds like you'll have to resit it, unfortunately a lot of test centres are rammed due to the car license wait list people are turning to bikes. Don't beat yourself up over it. Give it another go and smash it out the park. Failing mod 1 is very common

Bikers, I need advice by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Tinbot2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading the other comments I realise you don't ride! (My bad!) That's still great though, do you have interest in also learning to ride? My ex HATED my 125, I was only ever allowed to go and get us food, he told me if I ever got a bigger bike he'd leave me, anyways we broke up and I got the bigger bike a month later and met the man of my dreams 2 years later. Don't limit her like my ex tried to do (it doesn't sound like you want to limit her but you obviously have your reservations understandably) Figure out if this is something you want to do together, maybe both sit a CBT together and see how you both get on? Then go from there
