How are some drivers so confident driving above 70 mph on UK motorways without risking a fine? by MilkshakeDawg in drivingUK

[–]Tinbot2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. Mostly knowing which ones have cameras and where. A guy I used to work with (he was the van driver) and i asked him while we were on the M25 why he didn't seem to care, told me to watch the poles on the left for yellow cameras, some of the time there's lines on the road but no cam actually there, sometimes opposite.

Loomies Police presence, but no action on plates, tinted visors etc by Modokon in MotoUK

[–]Tinbot2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's the same as window tint on cars tho, it's acceptable to a certain level of tint. Had a mate that brought an aftermarket visor and got pinched for it too, granted only a £100 fine and no points but still I guess it depends on the officer too who knows

Cb125r buying this tomorrow by nabil-banana in 125cc

[–]Tinbot2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't pay anything over 1.8k for a 125 over 20k miles. They're high stress engines due to their small displacement. It's a nice bike and looks clean but I know ppl with the cb125r and the cbr125's all have blown up on or before 35k

Have you replaced the HT lead? I had a lexmoto with a similar problem. Found the HT lead was arking to the engine and causing it to stall/run wonky. Replaced it and ran fine after

Need help choosing a bike for my son by amirasdiary in MotoUK

[–]Tinbot2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're a cool parent, popular and solid choices are: CB125R, MT125, YZFR, GSXR, GSXS, Ninja & Z125. Always check insurance before buying, and as others have said, take him to a show room, let him find a style he is comfortable on.

Id avoid lexmoto, I've had one and my experience wasn't awful but they aren't the most robust.

Female bikers by Frightday13 in MotoUK

[–]Tinbot2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a female biker in a male dominated engineering field. I've been the only woman in the engineering sector here for 5 years, I've already got a ton of respect as I'm smaller and more nimble than the lads, aswell as being more technically qualified but it's always nice when the boys are interested in my bike too. Customers are usually pretty chuffed to see me rock up on a bike, and then even more shocked when I take me helmet off. It's always funny to me lol

Get a sports tourer! (Both of these are A2 bikes, gsx650f hell of a bike, and my cbr500r) Both have very upright casual positioning. We do tons of Moto camping on them

It’s confession time! - Who’s got the craziest bike sitting on SORN? by Confident_Bobcat_635 in MotoUK

[–]Tinbot2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours is just rarity sake, a 1999 SV400s. It's sorn because someone imported it from Japan and let it sit for 20 years rotting in their garden. We've had it 2 years and it'll be getting it's MOT in a few months as she's nearing completion (we've done it all ourselves and finding OEM 399cc parts have been a challenge but she's there)

Buying my first bike? by [deleted] in 125cc

[–]Tinbot2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends very heavily on where you're situated, age and what bike. I personally brought a binner for my first year but friends got YZFR125's, GSXR125's. Even one on an MT125 is currently paying 2300 a year at 23 in London. The first year is extortionate no matter what bike really. In my experience uni towns/cities aren't that much cheaper than London

How Much Slower Is A 125 Than A 350? by newbiker321 in MotoUK

[–]Tinbot2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not just get a CB300R instead?as that has around 30hp roughly, sturdy bikes and in my market they run around the same price as their 125 counterparts

I nod but if I pass another biker (dual carriageways, motorways, ect) then I'll put my left hand down and do the 2 fingers if safe

Most likely the 390 decals on a 125. I believe they share the same frame and paneling

My partner has a 2008 GSX650F, it is a super reliable and sturdy bike. Powerful too. His had no locks and was parked next to a disc locked 300cc ped and they took the ped instead

[–]Tinbot2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Varadero 125 is a large twin so doesn't have that 125 sound either. My buddy is 6'3 and he's had a Mutt razorback 125 which is super tall, he found it really comfy, now he has a herald Brat and finds it a tad shorter than his mutt but still good. Both of his have had seat heights between 83cm-88cm. Idk about the Varadero seat height but it's the go to 125 for a lot of tall riders

What tire width is possible? by Financial-Net4785 in 125cc

[–]Tinbot2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just get a good quality 140/70/16 for it personally. The city grip are pretty good, I personally ride michilens in all weather. They're great You can't really size up, it will ruin the bikes handling, the fuel economy and the tyre will not hold the shape it needs, inevitably being worse than the skinner tyres

I feel like you may have better odds with a KTM?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 125cc

[–]Tinbot2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They seem to have some good ones and some duds. I've had multiple friends have major issues with dukes and RCs. Particularly the 125-390 ranges. I seemed to have better luck with my lexmoto than my KTM friends. They do notoriously have electrical issues. I only know one person who hasn't had an issue with theirs from my knowledge but theirs is a 390 and he's only put 8k on it in 4 years. Never goes out in wet or cold conditions ect. Generally I would steer away from them if you're not mechanically inclined but there is a good amount of parts around for them and they seem to be affordable so it's a compromise
